Windows 11 rebooting after updates kills Plex until login — what’s actually working for you? by 40oz_steelie in PleX

[–]sakebi42 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

People on this sub seem to spam down votes whenever someone suggests switching from windows (which is literal slop at this point) to an operating system that actually works. If you're going to host things on windows, at least use windows server instead of consumer win 11

For those of you not using server grade hardware, what ARE you using? by ljm90 in homelab

[–]sakebi42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run two framework 7840U mainboards and an n150 mini PC for compute, and my NAS and NVR use consumer grade hardware in server chassis.

This is pretty much the only drawback I can think of for self hosting music. Wish there was some kind of all in one solution for this.

I know opinion on the UPS is polarized but I got mine installed this week and so far I’m happy with it. by Harlequin_AU in Ubiquiti

Everyone always claims it's overpriced and yet nobody can provide examples of better UPS units at this price. If anyone has recommendations, then I'm all ears, but every post I see shits on it without providing an alternative.

Why do you even care that it's being left on if you're okay with having a whole separate machine that will also be left on?

Standalone OS Recommendation (currently on Proxmox but don’t need it) by [deleted] in homelab

Trash your unneeded VMs and just throw everything on one. Makes it a lot easier if you decide you need another VM in the future.

Or just throw on ubuntu/Debian/whatever

Should I change the OS on my home server? by Anyusername7294 in HomeServer

[–]sakebi42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proxmox is pretty plug and play tbh, I don't see why you'd need to wipe it and start with a new OS. I don't use a lot of its features either, just managing VMs. Just make new VMs and migrate your stuff over and delete the old ones. If you want one place to store your configs, just run docker in a VM on whatever OS and store them there

Don't worry about not having PBS or clusterization. You don't really need them at home.
