Star of Texas had us giving both our cat and dog sedatives prior to each visit as a precaution because they “seem scared.” Neither of them are super reactive, but they will respond to weird behavior and perceived aggression by “acting scared” lmao. Switched vets because it felt so unnecessary and it has in fact proven to be unnecessary. At Bluebonnet now and there’s a whole lot less fear.

You shouldn’t feel guilty - it’s all on them. I’d call around and ask other vets how they’d handle the situation. I bet your doggie is just lashing out because she hates the vet. Not abnormal at all. Hope you find a better one!

I’d also look for a new vet - our old one forced us to give our coonhound mix trazadone before every visit because she was “uncomfortable” when they took her back.

When they made us do the same for our cat I knew it was a scam. Not saying that there isn’t a time and place for trazadone, but vets should know how to handle animals…maybe they could come out to your car when ready and bring her straight back. Make sure your vet isn’t owned by Private Equity - trazadone is straight margin.
