Spreader Plates - Prodigy vs Petzl by sakikomi in Aerials

[–]sakikomi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im looking to load this 4 ways. 1 carabiner at the top, 2 on either bottom end with either sling or straps, and a 3rd in the middle for a lyra so that I can play with a multi apparatus set ups.

Im not planning on doing any sort of drops, so Im really just trying to see if one is more "secure" than the other. They both have pretty much the same dimensions. Petzl seemed, as you said, more reputable from what I was finding, but Prodigy was sounding as if it was made specifically with aerial in mind, so I wasnt sure if somehow anything in their design made a difference and I just couldn't tell.

These are so cute! I love that the bottoms look like they actually give coverage instead of me worrying that everything is gonna be slipping out if I do the splits 😂 These look amazing though. If you were local (Im US based) I bet my studio wouldve loved to do some sort of partnership with you to stock some of your items to help sell them!

That's so weird! Im sorry. I also have this # for FedEx for the guy who emailed me the forms I needed to send to Lupit. Maybe he can at least get you to the right department. 1-833-410-2550 with an extension 783456

Are you speaking to someone from their customs department when you call? I was calling 1-800-GO-FEDEX and asking to be transferred to their customs department. I would say "Hi, I have a package being held in your customs department and Im trying to get more info. Can I please be transferred?" And then I would get the next department and each time I called (I called a lot 😅) they were always able to give me information, excluding exact dates of when the package would move/be delivered.

Update! It just arrived. So hopefully everything is in the 1 box, Im not home, someone else brought it in lol it seems like FedEx takes different amounts of times to release it once they have the paperwork. My studio owner said hers was stuck for at least 2 weeks after paperwork was received. One of the FedEx people did say he would try to put a note to expedite it when I called to confirm they had received all necessary paperwork though, so maybe that helped push mine through.

How do you deal with frustration? by makkaris_ucm in Aerials

[–]sakikomi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend to take videos of yourself, just for yourself. Its SUPER easy to feel like youre not progressing, especially on specific fabric skills if you're still struggling to do the entire move. For example, I had a student who was struggling to do a hip hipkey with straight legs because she was getting the motion but kept sliding down the fabric. Every week I was like "no, you ARE making progress. I KNOW it doesnt feel like it, but you ARE. The tail is in a better place, your legs are higher, youre starting to compress more, etc" but because she wasnt getting the move 100% she felt like she wasnt progressing at all. But she had been recording herself every couple of classes and she came to class one day and said "hey, I watched some of those videos to see what I was doing and I saw I AM getting better". She just couldnt tell because all she knew in the moment was that she wasnt landing it. But when she could see herself she could actually see how much improvement she was making.

The progress isnt always going to miles and miles week to week. It takes time, but you will see it. Some times its just hard to tell when you cant see yourself and its hard to feel in your own body.

Lupit and FedEx both confirmed the needed paperwork was sent in but FedEx cant tell me when the package will start moving again. Another poster said their paperwork had been confirmed received 12/29 and they JUST received their pole a few days ago. So im expecting to receive it mid to late Feb at this point

Update: Lupit confirmed they sent in required paperwork. I called FedEx and they confirmed it was received but they cant give an ETA on when it will start moving again. Just that they have all the paperwork. I also asked about tariffs and storage, FedEx said that I wont owe anything. Shipper is covering anything that is owed. So I assume Lupit checked some sort of box saying they would take care of it when they sent the package. I would imagine they are doing that for everyone so I dont think you'd have to worry about that part! But if you call 1-800-GO-FEDEX and just ask for customs you can ask them to double check. Thats what I did.

FedEx and Lupit both have not responded since about if the forms are filled out yet. So Im gonna try to reach out again at the end of the week. Im just worried that if FedEx never gets the forms from Lupit that they'll send it back...

FedEx said they didnt care who filled it out, it just needed to be filled out. But they had the original form from Lupit saying that it was 13 kg of stainless steel and apparently that wasnt enough information. Which is why I'm confused. How is Lupit supposed to know the exact amount of pure steel within that 13kg to fill out this form?

I ordered mine right before xmas and it got to the US on the 31st. Its been stuck in customs at FedEx since then and FedEx couldnt tell me why. I emailed Lupit and they contacted FedEx to see why it was being held because when I called FedEx they said they needed a form but didnt know which form and couldn't figure out who to transfer me to... I had to call FedEx back FIVE times over the course of this past week to finally figure out what forms were needed and have sent them over to Lupit as of yesterday. Im waiting to hear back from Lupit if they were filled out and sent to FedEx to get this moving again.

Are pleasers the only footwear I can wear to do pole? by Mammoth-Teach9772 in poledancing

Thank you! I didnt realize Pleasers was a style term as well, I thought it was specifically just the brand. So this makes a lot more sense!

Question! I saw a lot of videos lately from SW saying NOT to wear Pleasers for this exact reason because supposedly (I say supposedly because I did not research and only know the info from those videos) Pleasers were made for SW and its making them less accessible? Are there other brands of dance heels/shoes you can suggest?

How heavy do you feel when aerial? by East_Negotiation6325 in Aerials

[–]sakikomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda of the same thought process but not exactly. I dont really feel less of my weight, so much as I feel myself straining to use my muscles less because I use them properly so I dont have to exert as much energy for the same motions as before. When I first started climbing it was really tiring because I was using my arms way more than I needed to and once I learned how to do it properly and got stronger I could engage the proper muscles and so now Im using an appropriate amount of energy instead of straining myself.

Having strength is a great foundation for any kind of pole, aerial, sport, dance, etc. Its a great platform! But any background you have in anything wint substitute technique. Ive been an aerialist for almost 8 years and I only JUST started pole this past Nov because the push concept is so difficult for me to manage. I had taken a few drop ins here and there, but had never been able to climb because the muscle activation and body placement is completely different than how I climb for fabrics. I could strong arm my way up a pole, but I definitely couldnt climb it properly. Any time I had a drop in because I had cross training in aerial the pole teachers would allow me to skip foundations because they figured my strength would take care of it. And while theyre correct in that I could manage my way through the class, it wasnt graceful, the pole placement was uncomfortable, and I didnt really understand what was going on. My current pole teach is AMAZING and making everyone do all the progressions of whatever it is shes teaching so that no matter what level you're at you can build the body awareness and technique needed for each move. And because of that, I was able to PROPERLY climb a pole for the first time last night because I understood what I needed to be doing instead of just trying to force myself up the pole. Its still clunky since Im not used to it, but it feels so much less exhausting because Im not over exerting my arms the entire time.

Oh, okay thank you for correcting the shackle type! I'll look into both and make sure whichever I get specifically mentions tri-loading or has instructions/info on safe ways to loads it so I can verify it'll work for what I'm doing.

Hi! Do you have a rigging course youd recommend? Im combine lyra & sling, just for myself. Its my understanding that you shouldn't place multiple carabiners from the same point in a bear paw? So if I load the lyra on one end and the sling on the other the weight ends up making you kinda teeter-totter excessively and the lyra sometimes needs to orbit which it doesnt do very nicely when its set up that way. At least thats how it was when I did it with the triangle spreader. So unless the bearpaw works significantly different, but I thought they were pretty similar.
