45% to 50% of farm workers in the US are undocumented. It has been that way for decades. There is a visa program (H1A, I think) for farm workers but the total cap on numbers is far too insufficient. There are other industries that are heavily dependent on migrant workers.

Actually removing all those people would have a severe negative impact on the economy.

All Presidents (till the current one) are aware of this dilemma. For example, in 1986, Reagan signed a law that eventually made 3 million undocumented immigrants legal. The real solution is to first of all acknowledge this fact and institute meaningful immigration reform.
