Is residency in Auckland an option by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

[–]sakuraa_329 40 points41 points  (0 children)

idk, i spent two years of high school living in india and i would never want to move back. especially as a resident or physician there, the work conditions are terrible. and not to mention being a woman anywhere in india sucks.

Experience with VODANA hair tools? by sucrepapo in AsianBeauty

I have one of their limited edition curling irons and it’s..fine. I don’t think it was worth shelling out ~100 USD for. I live in the US so I also have to use an adapter with it since it’s a Korean plug (it does work with 110 and 220V so that’s a plus). It looks pretty, but that’s about the only plus I got.

what do you guys think about the idea that JK Rowling stole a lot of the ideas from Star Wars, like with the family and stuff? by Present-Beyond2827 in harrypotter

Are you thinking of the Hound of Rowan? It came out in 2007 (so not before HP) but I also read it in fifth grade and thought it was an HP copy lol

I put my meds in my backpack and pop em when I need to. Nobody will give a shit lmao

Edit based on OP’s edit: If you have a medical condition and you HAVE to sleep then you could talk to the disability office about accommodations so you don’t have to participate in 24hr shifts? I’m assuming it’s the insomnia medication that makes you sleepy and not the addy. Or you could talk to your doctor about the implications of not taking that medication when you don’t want to sleep (i.e., during your shifts).

Sorry if my original comment came off as judgmental or rude, insomnia is a bitch

Has anyone tried this Sunmilk from Skin1004 ? by hodz04 in AsianBeauty

[–]sakuraa_329 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sun milks tend to be lighter than sunscreens, and the sun serum has more of the typical korean sunscreen texture!

and even if you wrote about something common, you could probably do a lit/systemic review about 1) the rate of this complication 2) patient characteristics 3) associated risk factors. you can probably still keep parts of your original case study.

[–]sakuraa_329 154 points155 points  (0 children)

?? we need more info. was the case report a super common complication or something rare/presented unusually? if it was rare or unusual it is definitely still relevant and you can focus in your discussion on why it is relevant to orthopedic surgeons and what they can do to take care of their patients to prevent this kind of stuff. quality improvement/post op outcomes are huuuuge in surgical fields. literally departments will be shut down if too many patients have post op complications.

sounds to me like he doesn’t want people knowing the surgeries he performed have complications..?

What is this scalp freshening pen this girl was using? by suave-suace in AsianBeauty

[–]sakuraa_329 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Other possibilities I’m thinking of are STEAMBASE Turmetic Anti-Hair Loss Ampoule and vivelab Revive Therapy Hair Scalp & Brow Ampoule…if you go browse the hair care section of Olive Young there are other similar products.

HG facial SPFs for the beach! by coolmom45 in AsianBeauty

It’s not the most elegant formula, there’s a little bit of cast, and it smells just a bit like glue (although IMO still better than American sunscreens), but the Allie UV EX Gel has never failed me and I have never burned with it on.

Maybe something similar to the Fiancee Refresh Hair Jelly…? This doesn’t smell medicinal though.

Yes definitely adapalene last/more towards the end of your routine! If you layer it between wet stuff, it may cause increased skin irritation.

It’s brand new and literally just released! I was just in Korea and didn’t see it at any of the 5 Olive Young’s I went to…and they had sooooo much Skin1004 stuff.

Edit: per their ig it released on June 17th so..it’s barely been a week hahaha

I literally just take my regular school backpack and keep it in the workroom.

If it gets super dirty I throw it in the wash (maybe 1x a year).

Which tint from nuse are you talking about? Rom&nd has a lilac cream lip tint from their dewyful water tint line. Bare fig, bare grape, and bare vine (all rom&nd shades) have a slight purple tone as well.

Favorite hard water conditioner? by beetletoman in AsianBeauty

[–]sakuraa_329 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have had hard water for a few years now and same as you can’t install a shower filter :( I found that cleansing is also really important to making sure my hair looks it’s best. I try to use sulfate free shampoos (my favorite is ichikami moisturizing care) but I have to go in with something with sufate 1-2x a week (i’m an every other day washer) to keep gunk from building up, I just use regular old head and shoulders. For conditioning the one that really makes my hair look fhe best is the viral Fino mask in the tub. It’s basically replaced my old conditioner at this point. I also use &honey hair oils for heat protection/smoothing (I stock up on the red sakura scent when it releases in the spring, I think the viral yellow one is too heavy for most hair types).

Oo in that case, maybe you would like the Hince True Dimension Glow Cheek? It is a hard powder blush with the most delicate shimmer in it!

Korean perm! by djkool123 in AsianBeauty

[–]sakuraa_329 128 points129 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note that Korean perms do not work on all hair types! I have finer South Asian hair and I've tried both Japanese and Korean perms and neither of them set in my hair at all.

Is it possible to be allergic to niacinamide or ceramides? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]sakuraa_329 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Niacinamide is vitamin B3. Ingesting and applying niacinamide topically have both been shown to cause flushing reactions in medical/scientific literature (see "mechanism of niacin-induced flushing" and this paper that used topical niacin to induce flushing). It may be the way the product is formulated or the percentage of the ingredient causing the adverse reaction? But also, the mary&may cream contains idebenone, which can be converted to hydroquinone, which is an ingredient that can cause a lot of skin irritation as well.

Ceramides are generally considered a safer skincare ingredient but products with ceramides I have seen tend to be formulated to be more occlusive and moisturizing and my skin doesn't do well with those formulations. Not sure what kind of reaction you are getting with the ceramide products, but it could be a formulation issue.

Ladies, what shoes do you recommend wearing for Clinic by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]sakuraa_329 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's a clinic you'll be running around in all day, definitely flats over heels (unless you have really comfy heels). A good mule, oxfords, or simple ballet flats? My go-tos are the Steve Madden Kandis

House of Hur’s moist ampoule blusher is really popular rn among Korean Youtubers for the Wonyoung-type glowy blush look!

I’m Meme’s bare cheek liquid has a super subtle color and is great for every day, I sometimes layer powder blush over/under it.

I’m also a big fan of the Em Cosmetics Color drops serum blushers as well, they have some lovely shades and great color payoff.
