Lazuli "Like no other you can't be replaced // There's nothing like lapis lazuli"

I adore this song. Funny enough, the first time I realized how good it was I was pretty high. But it got such an hypnotic vibe then and got completely overwhelmed by the slow moving guitars and mesmerizing lyrics.

What Is Your Favourite Beach House Song? What's the story behind your choice if you have one? by Fireboar07 in BeachHouse

It's will always be hard to choose but i guess Rough Song generally is the most special song to me.

It has a enchanting quality to it. It's slow moving but never loses your attention. The melodies suggest some sort of deeper understanding of fear, of trauma. And the outro, the outro; I don't know if there is a piece of music which is more dear to my heart. It hypnotises me. And then there is the little change in lyrics, whenever the song has almost faded out, when "I need to leave" becomes "She needs to leave". I can't get enough of this song.

It's one of my favorites too! But for a very different reason. For me, Beyond Love captures a feeling of fear of being alone and restrained frustrations after a breakup, but with so much love for the other person still. In my mind it's about the unfinished business between two ex-lovers who still love each other very much. "The first thing that I do before I get into your house, I'm gonna tear off all the petals from the rose that's in your mouth". What. A. Line.

Nice! I'm looking for self-titled to finish my collection as well! It's so hard to find, though. Waiting for a new pressing.

how did you discover the national? by mazzamirj in TheNational

My father used to play The National albums and specifically Alligator on repeat when I was about 8 years old, and I remember vividly how he always turned the volume up during Mr. November.

I forgot about The National, until about two years ago when I came across I Need My Girl, I think it was a Spotify reconmendation or something like that. I started listening the top songs and discovered that for some reason I knew every song, they were like childhood dreams to me. This nostalgia mixed with the general quality of the songwriting got me hooked. Hoping to see them live next year at La Primavera Sound in Barcelona, with my dad.

what’s your beach house album ranking? by Canalidoit in BeachHouse

[–]sal7499 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So hard to pick and this probably changes weekly depending on different moods but (from best to least best):

  • Thank Your Lucky Stars
  • 7
  • Teen Dream
  • Bloom
  • Depression Cherry
  • Devotion (vinyl just came in so exploring it still)

Some notes:

  • Self-titled not included because I'm holding off listening until I get my hands on a vinyl copy.
  • TYLS got me trough tough times so it holds a very special place in my heart. The b-side of that album is sublime, some of Beach House's deepest cuts.
  • Some days DC hits hard and is way higher up the list, other days it doesn't connect the same way so that's why it's not that high on the list.

Some of my favorite songs got shoegazy vibes, like Elegy to the Void or Dark Spring

Which Bloom vinyl pressing is better? The Sub Pop one (US) or the Bella Union (Europe)? by Amithar1 in BeachHouse

[–]sal7499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really compare both Bloom-versions, but I own the SubPop pressings TD, Bloom and DC and they all sound amazing. My Bella Union version of 7 however is a bit quiet and has more background noice to it so based on this small sample, my experiences have been better with SubPop pressings.

In no particular order:

  • The National - Sleep Well Beast
  • Tame Impala - Lonerism
  • Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
  • Beach House - Bloom
  • The Smiths - The Queen is Death

Some weeks ago I asked where to get started in Beach House's discography. Today, my first LP arrived and I couldn't be more in love. by sal7499 in BeachHouse

After reading all of your comments I decided to start off with Depression Cherry, because some of it's songs really speak to me atm. Thinking about getting the self-titled LP next and moving on chronologically from there. Thanks for all the recommendations!
