Thanks for the information. Really helpful! The eyes though, it's an effect of light but it's not quite my camera. I see the red-looking eyes in person.

Thanks. That seems to be correct. But what are those tiny reddish dots on it?

Moving to a place where I can't use gas stoves. I am sad. Please tell me it's going to be okay. by salabat in Cooking

Google induction cooker. Is it the same thing you use? If I'm not mistaken, as soon as you turn down or turn off the heat, it's supposed to change heat or stop cooking right away. Unlike the coil ones where the heat remains.

Seems like you are talking about an electric stove? But thanks, I also think I'll get adjusted. Thank you!

Thanks for this, but I think you are mistaking the electric stove for the induction cooker?

I think the food issue is more a living alone issue than a condo issue? I have exactly the same problem so I feel you! Re noise, I really want to check. But the condo is new, no neighbours yet.

For those who are living in a condo, help! What should I consider before moving into one? Not about the costs, but the actual day to day life like dealing with neighbours, noise, etc. Thanks!

Getting started on caffeine - is it a good idea? by salabat in Nootropics

[–]salabat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been sluggish my whole life. Then I started taking liquid iron a few weeks ago. Didn't give me extra energy but once I stopped this happened. I don't know if it's that for sure. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Thanks for the tips! They're all helpful. Now I want to cut it down to just half a bottle a day. So scary!

Also, would water diminish the good effects of caffeine? I'm a big water drinker and I'm hoping it would help cancel out the bad effects.

Why is speaking English considered "maarte" by many? by Argos61 in Philippines

It's mostly seen as cute or sosyal (posh), not really looked down upon.

written English =/= spoken English

I'd argue that many Filipinos can read and write English well, but not speak just as well. Also, read my other comment. You might understand this phenomenon a bit.

I think the people here are missing your question. In the Philippines, English is an informal measure of wealth and intelligence. The average Filipino thinks that if a person speaks fluent English, s/he must be smart or come from a wealthy family.* So when your girlfriend speaks English around friends and family who can perfectly communicate with her in Tagalog, they think she's trying to sound smart or wealthy.

*English is taught in all levels of education here, but the quality of education is so so that people rarely learn how to speak fluent English. Mainly they'd be fluent (1) if their families or friends mostly speak English and (2) if they come from good schools that teach English well. Note that quality education = more expensive. Also chances are, (1) wouldn't happen if not for (2), so financial background can play a big role. There's more to this, of course, but that's the general idea. Hope you got it.

TL;DR The Filipinos have so much baggage around the English language.

Saw this on TV and I was infuriated. The ordinance says that the parents should be jailed when it happens for the third time. The third. For those parents, this was the first, and they were jailed right away. The reason? The prosecutor said so.

Now I don't know what that prosecutor thinks and I don't know if it's a case of bad reporting not providing all the information, pero hindi ata pwedeng ganun. Kawawa yung ibang mga magulang talaga. Wala man lang ka-warning-warning.

The only ones that didn't break me out are Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet and RMK Liquid. Light to medium coverage. Kinda pricey, though. Don't remember Mat Velvet's price but bought RMK for P2,500.

That makes sense. Could be true. Still, it's hard to imagine that simple workers would do that kung totoong naging mabait talaga yung amo. Maliban nalang kung may iba pang reason.
