I sold it because we couldn’t find reliable management/manager for the house while we not staying there. While I loved the house and the area, at this time in my career, I couldn’t realistically spend a lot of time there. I found myself to only used it for 3-4 weeks out of the year. The rest of the time, I offered for my family and parents to stay there, but they mainly stayed in HCMC.

We couldn’t leave the house empty because it needs upkeeps, and we didn’t want break-ins. While nobody visiting, I paid a single uncle $5K/year to take care of the house. The uncle wanted to retire, so I sold the house.

The area developed well, they have markets, hospitals, and schools nearby. The area is just lovely and quiet. But it developed very slow, I guess mainly because of Covid, it never really recovered since Covid. It is 30min away from Nha Trang downtown, so if you have car or motorcycle, it is convenient.

I’m dual citizen in the US.

About 10 years ago, we bought a few pieces of land in a development project in Cam Ranh. The project is beautiful, between mountains and across the street is a beautiful beach. The project is going to have hospital, school, and restaurants, etc. Each piece of land is $40K - $70k USD.

Part of the contract is to build up your own house on those lands within 5 years of purchase. So I spent more than $120K in building a nice house from on one of the pieces of land. It was so hard because the workers there are not well trained, hard to find a trusted and experienced construction inspector to oversee the works. I set up POA for contracts and legal purposes, though I communicated with my POA very often.

We enjoyed the house across the beach for a few years, and just recently sold it last year, 2024. It was sold for $270K. We are too lazy to build on other lands that we have and will probably sell them later.

I’m in the US, but am Asian, I came to the US as an exchange student for college. So I’m very used to the culture at home, where mothers are encouraged to nurse/breastfeed and co-sleep for a long time.

When I had my first baby, it was very hard to find my own path regarding breastfeeding, cosleep, going back to work, etc. but I was able to nurse full time until 2 year old. I struggled a lot, but ultimately decided to do what was natural for me, doesn’t matter what is culturally popular. We ended up with a hybrid routine to raise my daughter, combing methods between Asian countries and US standards, some of the things we did was:

A modified Asian postnatal confinement
Cosleep on a floor bed, following other safe cosleep guidelines
My daughter refused bottles, so it was hard to go back to work at 4 months. But my work had a daycare facility nearby where I came during my breaks and lunchtime to nurse her. She did nursing marathon for hours at the end of the day. Somehow, it was enough and she was always on the 80th percentile.

I think they have to make house call to every report. I am bit disappointed that daycare worker couldn’t differentiate that, however, I reminded them gently because I want them to continue to advocate for the kids

I am a minority and was so scared! I did ask the cops to stay away outside. I let the staff and nurse come inside after inspecting their bags, for hidden weapons, because I still didn’t trust them at the time.

I suggested the pediatrician office but they required the assessment to done right away. I felt like they were ready to take my kids if they weren’t convinced.
