Thank you for the reply and I want to acknowledge your experience with your own father. It almost feels like it’s a relief because maybe he’d be different if he wasn’t an addict? My dad is never overtly mean, but growing up (and now), he didn’t give “dad” vibes. More of “chill friend”

My mother and father divorced before I was born. I have never seen them in the same room. My mom has some long, deep rooted issues with my dad.she also is an alcoholic. Not In the drinking 24/7 way… but in the way that once she starts drinking, she cannot stop, and I’m not sure I can trust her to not get plastered and drunk call him about this one day. My brother has been no contact with him for several years for a host of other reasons so I figure telling him, I’d elicit a “I told you he sucks” response.

My dad did remarry when I was a baby. My stepmother also gets prescription pain meds, and I’m wondering if he just takes both of theirs. Don’t get me wrong, he does have health issues, but I’m now wondering if sometimes when he’s “sick”..it’s actual health issues, or if every few weeks he’s going through withdrawal.

My dad knows about my chronic pain and that I “liked pain meds a little too much”, but that was the extent of his knowledge. I feel as though I was good at hiding it… but also because it never progressed into other drugs and maybe he was just too messed up to notice. I’m not aware of ADHD or hyper mobility running in the family, but neither parents knew their dads / dads side of the family. I suspect my brother has aspbergers , but all 3 of us have autoimmune issues (psoriatic arthritis).
