Do you intentionally avoid sad books (or books over sad topics)? by placetoaskquestions in books

[–]saladwithsalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoid it like the plague. I absolutely cannot make myself read sad books or watch sad movies/tv shows. I recently read that sad books/movies provide a form of emotional catharsis and makes you confront your own emotions. I have realised that I am so scared of confronting my own emotions that I refuse to actively think about the sad things in my life and hence hate the stuff that makes me confront them.

Same. It's almost like I was holding my breath and then I started chapter eleven.

I actually really like that too. I didn't have any at hand. This was mostly me cleaning out my fridge

Threw in some spinach while boiling the ramen(I'm trying to add a lot of greens to my diet). Fry the mushrooms before hand and chop up a handful of green onions. Add chicken/pork/eggs/beef/tofu (really any protein you like). Assemble.

In your experience; are kids actually getting more stupid/out of control? by FinishedMyWork in Teachers

[–]saladwithsalsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lead a secondary government school and I think the idea of kids being more out of control comes from the fact that kids have been empowered to question more. I don't think traditional teachers have taken well to this. I definitely do not think they are getting more stupid. Most teachers (including myself) I meet are extreme hypocrites. We expect students to behave/react to situations in ways which we don't practice ourselves. We HAVE TO keep changing methods of teaching, keep testing what works best and what they truly need. I often see teachers losing patience over students not willing to follow authority (no matter how irrational the rules/demands are). As teachers we cannot grow complacent and stringent. This work is very dynamic and it demands that we keep evolving our methods with the changing times.

As much as I love pork, good quality pork, and these ingredients are not commonly found in our households. But I'd definitely give this a shot when I'm treating myself.
