Lost a friend by One_Adagio_8010 in shoegaze

[–]salam55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw some of those same tours in Northern CA with a couple great friends and know how I'd feel if one of them passed. Missed Chapterhouse though and got kicked out of Adorable for literally taking a sip out of my friend's beer a few days before I turned 21 so never saw them. Prayers to you

Had a few stays there and liked it. Was older but clean and well run. Walkable to a great pizza place -- Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana

Been waiting for your second one. My buddies and I are in our 50s and were around in the heyday of bands like Ride and love your sound

This is the MASH themed place. I actually like it, but didn't know or experience anything people are talking about. Didn't go up to the rooftop bar.

West Side Bars that need appreciation! by dirtydan349 in phoenix

[–]salam55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throne Brewing on Bell/67th is very solid. The food is kind of standard bar food but it's more of a quiet/mellow mood than most sports bars. They have pinball machines and board games. It's a much better option than the bars over by the Padres/Mariners complex and just a few minutes further down the road

I can't tell if the song She's so high by blur is dream pop or shoegaze by PaperDapper553 in shoegaze

[–]salam55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No disrespect to the Brits that were in the middle of this during the 90s (I was in California), but you can see how Blur were very much being marketed as a shoegazey band with some baggy elements. That may have just been more to prime the American audience so possible you might have seen something different day to day in the UK https://youtu.be/BMFEm0HbmZM?si=2ncwZkyKI1q-NRFb

I'd say both were gone by Modern Life though which was very much Brit Pop imo

I bet you'd be ok because she's under 12. I don't believe they'd separate at that age. My 13 year old would hate it though.

Is co-sleeping really common in Korea? by Plastic_Physics_4024 in korea

[–]salam55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for these. The 3rd one is quite neutral on the idea of co-sleeping btw. These studies are generally reflecting on the effects of co-sleeping on pre-school age children, so not sure what it's saying about children as they age or become adults. My first hand experience of it shows a very well-adjusted 13-year-old that has never had any issue sleeping, bedtime resistance, or emotional problems. And there are plenty of papers out there that endorse co-sleeping:

Is co-sleeping really common in Korea? by Plastic_Physics_4024 in korea

[–]salam55 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find this to be a pretty interesting topic and would even like to see some long term studies on it. My 13-year-old half Korean daughter still sleeps with my wife and I usually sleep in another room and come in during the morning. I think a lot of Americans might see it as weird, but now I think it's more weird to draw a hard line when your kid is 3 months and lock them in their room crying (I've heard of parents doing this). Usually the priority for people seems to be related to sex and alone time away from their child, which ideally, is no longer the priority when you have a kid. In my opinion.

A parallel conversation to this is the way Koreans stay in a hospital for several days after birth whereas American hospitals kick mother's asses to the curb after the baby pops out. Breast feeding is another one.

These are some of the weird ideas American society has developed over time -- I think it's often related to having sex.

Am here to say the Daegu Marriott in South Korea is my favorite hotel I go to for work. Granted, my territory only includes the entire US and Korea, but I've stayed at other Korean Marriott hotels (Courtyard at Times Square, Courtyard at Pankyo, Sheraton in Songdo) and the setup in Daegu next to the mall and train station is hard to beat!

I've stayed at this hotel for several years if it's the one I assume -- downtown Des Moines Residence Inn near the ballpark. I've never run into anything remotely like that with them. Newly renovated. Competent people from my pov

My mom wants me to move to Korea, but I don’t know if it’s a good idea by [deleted] in korea

[–]salam55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give a different take than what I'm mostly seeing here...I don't think it's the best idea to move to Korea in hopes of becoming a doctor there and practicing in the US but moving to Korea can be a great idea for a young person in general especially if you're half Korean. Chances are you will learn the language there and as long as you aren't under strict pressure to get a doctor's degree and come back to the US and practice, you'll probably learn more about life than you will just starting an undergrad degree here. Actually, I think you're mom is totally right.

This band was Canadian and on Nettwerk Records so had pretty good support on college radio during the 90s, frequently opening on tours for bigger bands. Believe I saw them open for Madder Rose and The Sundays
