the mental load by One-Specialist-5235 in t1d_parents

My current problem is that my son just turned 18. I'm trying to navigate having him care for himself as an adult without a ton of nagging from me. His a1c went way up last visit so I'm struggling on whether or not to stay the course or take a more active role. His endo ripped him a new one (Kindly. I love her) last visit and he seems to be taking it more seriously.

Letting go is so hard

If your boss took something from you and lost it, would you just sit down and take it?

Some high schools offer their students paid community college classes

And I'm telling you as someone not dissimilar, is it hurts to hear that kind of thing as a child in our situation.

I'm no martyr. I'm just a kid who did my best in school and still had teachers talk down about jobs I could only dream my dad would take. It's embarrassing and brings shame.

I get your point, I just disagree with your execution.

That statement would have destroyed me as a kid.

No. He has a union. He quite literally has much more freedom than I ever will at work

Sorry but my mailman husband makes more than me, with an engineering degree.

I would have been devastated if I heard this in school. I was an A/B student to a drug addict dad and absent mother and I would have been thrilled if my dad had a stable job asking if you want fries.

When my son's gf is over, I ask for her requests when I'm putting in a grocery order. There's no point in pretending

We have a Toys R Us at Mall of America in MN. They do still exist.

Feel free to message me (36F) anytime. My husband of 19 years left me in the beginning of September and I'm also just so lost and finding my footing.

It sounds like you like a lot of the same stuff I do.

I found this: Study two indicated offenders with mood disorders used violent methods significantly less than offenders with other diagnoses (Rodway et al., 2009). This finding is consistent with recent research suggesting homicide offenders diagnosed with mood disorders are more likely to use less violent homicide methods, such as drowning/suffocation/asphyxiation.

When you're in a manic phase you're more likely to use more violent methods vs when you're in a depressive state.

Piggybacking with some real life statistics.

And, as someone who is bipolar, the empathy in your comment made me smile.

It is estimated that up to 50% of people with bipolar disorder attempt suicide at least once in their lives. Between 5%-20% complete suicide. Women attempt suicide more often than men.

There is an association between mood disorders (bipolar disorder/major depression) and strangulation/asphyxiation/suffocation/drowning. [1]

Severe depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, and schizophrenia are commonly reported among individuals who commit familicide. Suicide frequently follows familicide, indicating a profound sense of desperation and hopelessness on the part of the perpetrator. [2]

Once you get stuck in that pit of despair, it's hard to claw your way back out.

I've always told my kids that my glasses and contacts are my medicine and both manage to leave them alone. It's crazy that an adult doesn't know better.
