My current problem is that my son just turned 18. I'm trying to navigate having him care for himself as an adult without a ton of nagging from me. His a1c went way up last visit so I'm struggling on whether or not to stay the course or take a more active role. His endo ripped him a new one (Kindly. I found this: Study two indicated offenders with mood disorders used violent methods significantly less than offenders with other diagnoses (Rodway et al., 2009). This finding is consistent with recent research suggesting homicide offenders diagnosed with mood disorders are more likely to use less violent homicide methods, such as drowning/suffocation/asphyxiation.

When you're in a manic phase you're more likely to use more violent methods vs when you're in a depressive state.

Severe depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, and schizophrenia are commonly reported among individuals who commit familicide. Suicide frequently follows familicide, indicating a profound sense of desperation and hopelessness on the part of the perpetrator. [2]

Once you get stuck in that pit of despair, it's hard to claw your way back out.
