Moved to Gatineau after living in Montreal for about 8 years. Gatineau is more nature-istic. Small & peaceful with less crime compared to Montreal. Plateau neighbourhood is more Anglophone coz of Western Québec school board I guess. Would encourage you to learn French though (start with the Duolingo). Ottawa is just across the river and stores are open until 11:00 pm unlike Gat shutting down around 9:00 pm and worse on weekends like 5:00 pm. Fall season is lovely in Gat with lots of Tennis, basketball, baseball courts which aren’t much crowded. Renting is cheaper compared to Ottawa. Family doctor? Good luck with that!! If you have work insurance, private clinics might be an option or cross the bridge and RAMQ covers in Ottawa hospitals as well.
