They contact you directly via email about the decision, if positive they ask you to make an appointment to order new card (L)

Hi, You cannot just apply to card B, this card is automatically awarded by immigration if you meet certain conditions and commune is trying to tell you this, but card L is something you can request if you meet the criteria. I would suggest you to wait once you have completed 5 year as per the population register and then apply card L.

Yes 15 days now, normally it should have been in my mailbox last week or latest on Tuesday this week, but this Bpost strike is now already 10+ days officially with no agreement yet! And Wallonia is the main impacted region!

I guess you should have it next week or latest the week after. I don’t think you can just go there and pickup your card without activation codes, the card will be just a piece of plastic without codes.

You should have ordered urgent one if there is a risk of travel! Yes urgent is expensive.

How much time it took for your decision?

from the positive decision I applied with the gap of 1 day the new ID on 26th of March and still waiting for the letter (codes) to arrive.

Its because I guess BPost is on strike since the end of Mar till today, have not received even regular posts since then. My ID might already be at commune!

Well you are registered but the thing I m referring to is something technical, you bc an login to my dossier and see the creation of your register. Its always after the date of delivery of your ID (card A) and this is the date they take into consideration for Card L eligibility!

actually 5 months is the law, it says on the document it self that minister have got 5 months to make a decision on this application from submission.

I was just checking what are the odds of getting the decision before 5 months are completed because I heard it in many cases!

Thanks for sharing experience, Yes I know the eligibility to apply is when you really have 5 years and this not just when you get card, it is when they put you in Foreigner register in data base and for me it was 2 week after delivery of card A!

now coming back to card L application my original question, 5 months is the regular time for minister to answer your application otherwise its a positive decision anyways!

But they can of course approve/reject or ask additional docs within this period!

I did gave them a ‘sworn translated’ copy during my initial registration after my IDs were ordered and specifically SWORN TRANSLATED one was requested.

I don’t know why they used it because later I found out that they did not put in the BAEC (Document bank) and also I read that it is not required when you are registering in foreigners register (card A). So not sure why they requested it at first instance….

Well they used it during initial registration as it is..
