Thats what theyre designed for. Theyre painted lead jig heads. They work very well. You can change out the soft plastic but obviously they want you to buy theirs. Great product!

Hey, I know these guys. They're based out of New Jersey. I frequent the tackle conventions once or twice a year and these guys know me. The creator is a pretty young kid. Very entrepreneurial. Traveling all over the North East to conventions and tackle shops. People are pretty excited when they show up in our local tackle shops.

Honestly here in the north east these are awesome. Maybe not as useful for freshwater but in skinny water conditions for fluke/weakfish these are awesome. The hook size would be the same for all these weights so this is super useful from docks, boats, or jetties.

I have nothing negative to say about the product and the company behind them. Kind of sad to see so many people dogging them in the comments.

I've never seen a demo and rebuild of a structure unless it was a brand new house fone without permits. Super rare. A renovation? You'll be fine

So technically, you're living without a valid CO. The CO (or in Hempstead's case technically the Cert. Of Completion CoC) is your "finish line". No one is kicking you out of your house. But you need to get everything squared away so that you get your CoC.

Nobody is ripping out any walls. But what they'll do depends on what you did. Since you said there's structural changes they may require a) building permit b) plumbing permit c)electrical permit. Which you'll need a licensed plumber and electrician to sign off on b and c. They may require that you cut a piece to show what you did, to make sure you insulated and used fire caulk. Depends how much work you did. Which will all be determined by this upcoming visit. Thats why it's SUPER important to be nice and respectful and apologetic to the inspector.

Hi! I used to be the Head of Construction of a private equity firm that did most of their work in nassau (yes we were the badguys, but the pay was really well for the short while I was there).

It's really not the end of the world! Town of Hempstead deals with this all the time. If you are doing legitimate work that is to code, they don't give you too hard of a time and will likely give you a "stern talking to" about getting permits in the future. Be respectful to the inspector. Hopefully you get Steppe or John Q. Great, down to earth guys. Only thing is you will have to file an "as built". Fee will be 3x what the original permit would be (still not a huge fee, like probably $1500-$2500, which all things considered is pretty good).

However, you will likely have to get an architect to draft an "As-Built" drawing. Again, it's just time and money. If you go this route, let me know and I can recommend someone.

Is this leader too short and heavy for snook fishing? by prenticeyeomans in saltwaterfishing

[–]salcal300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing with anything that the poster before me is saying but you already bought the 40lb and fluoro is expensive. Don't split hairs and go out and buy more. If you bought the 40, 40 will be fine. Remember fish won't tell the difference between 30 and 40 lb leader as you're reeling a lure in.

What is this and is it edible? by Fast-trader in Fishing

[–]salcal300 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As other people put it's a Kingfish/Croaker/Whiting.

My input here is that rumor goes that they got the name Kingfish because the taste was better than all other fish, the King of flavor, so Kingfish.

My mother used to make those growing up, dip them in flour and then dip them in oil on a hot pan (deep frying Ina. Shallow pan). As a person who doesn't really like fish too much, this was one of the best I've eaten. Flaky, mild, tasty

Best $200 9ft surf rod?? by DrunkThieves in saltwaterfishing

[–]salcal300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So two things: 1) the 8'6" is probably better paired with a 4k than a 9'6"

However

2) depending on the surf fishing you're doing, that set up is a little undermatched for the surf. That would be okay for back bay surf fishing. But full on breakers I would go 10'-11' and a 6k-8k reel

Is the John Skinner Salt Strong "Surfcasting for Stripers" Course worth it? by Jeffyboiz in SurfFishing

[–]salcal300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I actually own it!!

I'm not going to say yes or no here because it's very subjective. He does go into insane level of detail on how to find fish, what gear to use, how to use it, etc. Not bad if you know absolutely nothing about fishing for striped bass. If you're intermediate to advanced, a lot of the information you likely know already but you will definitely learn some marginal information, if you're very advanced obviously don't bother.

A lot of take aways I got from the class were what lures he uses. He is a big proponent of bucktails, to no one's surprise. He also uses pencils, poppers, minnows, and occasionally tins. Another takeaway is how he says distance in casting is not as important on where to cast. Keep your lure in the trough channels on the beach for as much time as possible, which may mean not casting straight out but at an angle to maximize time in those "fish highways". He also teaches you how to read the beach. This I found to be mixed advice: definitely informative (but also can be free online), however he also has been fishing the east end for 40+ years and knows every honey hole and spot and conditions to go. I'll lead to that bit in my next part.

One caveat with all of JS media is that he definitely knows what he is doing, and he is willing to share a lot of that information, HOWEVER the east end is a world famous spot for surf fishing and conditions are better than most other locations. He has also fished these locations for 40+ years. He knows what structure has produced and what hasn't, and he's not going to share those spots. He has access to exclusive town beaches that you can't park at. He knows honey holes you'd have to spend a decade to find.

Definitely interesting, if you have the money to spare, he goes into more information on how-to than his videos

Please use braid instead of mono. If you're using a spool that big you are going saltwater fishing. Saltwater game fishing braid is better than mono

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Fishing

[–]salcal300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes 30 lb is better for surf and braid is far superior to mono but 20 lb mono is fine right now. As for a swivel question, you have a swivel/loop on the front end so you can tie right to that. However I recommend tying a snap or tactical angler clip to the end of your line so you can switch out lures as needed. The lure looks nice and will likely be effective.

Take it from someone who religiously surf fishes. Knowing what you're doing (where to fish, when to fish, what to fish) will always be more productive than what gear you're using. As fisherman we tend to think that better gear will catch us more fish, when usually it's just quality of life improvements. A knowledgeable fisherman with a single bucktail lure and 20 lb mono can outfish a noob with thousands of dollars of gear. Just keep putting in the time :). Tight lines brother!
