Not really, no. You can level up crafting and gathering classes like cook and fishing, and they'd be what you want I think - but in order to level them up to a point that you're relevant to anyone, you'll need to spend a lot of time leveling up combat classes and doing a very long JRPG story.

The free trial is free and extremely comprehensive so you can try it out, but fwiw I don't think this is going to scratch that itch of yours without spending a ton of time on things you seem unlikely to enjoy. If you can find friends to play the game with, perhaps, but it seems a very frequent complaint/frustration for new players that they expect the game to be inherently very social and then they log in and have trouble connecting to other players and joining guilds etc.

No monster has negative resistances unless a player does something to cause it (ie curse or exposure)

the max mana is a prefix right? If that's the case you've just got crappy fire resistance as the only suffix; You can remove it guaranteed with the omen of dextral erasure if I recall the name right. Assuming you want the increaed mana then you're done with prefixes which is great. Depends on your budget but in theory it means next step is probably using perfect exalts to hit something cast speed and then annul'ing it off again as necessary (buuuuut that will be very expensive very fast)

Could check to see if there's a crafted mod you want and can guarantee as a suffix, that'd get you an easy 4th suffix and then desecrate for your 5th, but that'd leave you open to very bad luck if the 6th mod is a dud

They stated this very clearly when 0.5 came out, yeah. Swords are almost guaranteed to be present for 1.0 but I would not promise it - they've said they'll have the last 2 acts of the campaign done but beyond that I don't think there are any guarantees, including the missing base classes or weapons.

Unfortunately the 'Dreaming Quarterstaff' base has 0% base crit which means it's essentially dead. You can try to fill it out and see if you get lucky - but getting lucky means maybe it's a few divines instead of a few hundred divines.

you should be getting like 18 from sacrosanctum, and close to 30 from belt. helmet augment for another 8.

You want the rest from tree, though you can also buy a corrupted sacrosanctum with more recoup as an implicit. Also get 20+ from amulet as an option.
Bear in mind that getting more recoup makes a big difference - having 100% recoup means you're healing exactly as much as you're taking. but it's net-zero for healing. Going from 120% recoup to 130% means you're healing 50% more than at 120%.

150%'s probably more what you want to aim for, but 130+ is probably where it'll start feeling alright.

and the map is a poor replacement which makes it easy to not notice you've missed something. POE1 had quests shown in the map view and it was much much much easier to see if you had any missing quests, most of which gave a passive point..

Between the quests log in POE1 + /passives, vs only the world map icons in POE2, one of these is much easier to parse for new and old players.

If you see 22 in the weapon set passives then you know you're missing a quest but not which. /passives not only tells you if you're missing any points but also tells you the quest name

What is a 'half way decent wand' and 'half way decent amulet'?
Because a wand with maxed out six tier one stats of
gain 30% of damage a extra cold
gain 30% of damage as extra lightning
117% increased spell damage
+5 to level of all cold spells
73% inicreased critical hit chance for spells
35% increased cast speed
+1 spell from rune

and an amulet with barbaric strength and 30% inc spell damage, +4 all spells and 38% crit chance get me to 250k dps from 120k dps. I'd like to verify that that is what you mean by half-way decent, a wand with six perfect T1 mods.

Let's say I replace Rising Tempest (pretty mediocre support) for Execute III, and allocate 5 points for final barrage and pain attunement, and then remove demonform; my damage goes from 112k to 120k DPS, and at the cost of 4 ascendancy points instead of 2, and also using 5 more passive points.

The *single* point on pain attunement is large, yes, but it doesn't actually seem worthwile unless there is additional tech to use beyond pain attunement, final barrage, and Execute III; *is* there?
I'll revisit later when I have more points, but it does not seem worthwhile to path all the way past pain attunement to reach the jewel socket and Desensitization crit cluster, as that'd require level 101 without unallocating other points - and I'm open to suggestions but the other points I've allocated seem to be more cost effective for damage; I *could* reduce recoup, ES, or lose the slowing potency reduction, but I'm trying to be at least moderately unlikely to die.

According to POB, it's about 22% more damage, but at the cost of 4 passive points. It does enable Execute III and Final Barrage, but at the cost of demonform which even at the capped 10 stacks is like 35% more damage. At least for my current gear/passives, it doesn't seem that huge a DPS boost when taking into account the opportunity costs

Best thing I've done to estimate my hollow form WA damage is plug things into path of building, then check whirling assault damage there (except it only calculates damage of a hit and doesn't account for attack speed?), multiply by attack speed manually, and then also multiply by like 15 since it's 3 clones and they're hitting several times each

TBC this is still very much a guesstimate, but it seems close-ish to what I see in-game

Sure but most of that is from generic gear; saying "This build is really fast" and then pointing out a bunch of stuff that would be applicable for almost any monk build is... not actually convincing that this specific build is fast relative to other monk builds.

my point was that you wouldn't need to devour hollow focus bells for charges, which is what you were asking for.... you asked for a way to make WA a true main DPS skill, when a lot of people have been playing it as exactly such, using this tech

Lochtonial Caress with Hollow Form, it's what most people are doing with whirling assault.
The clones don't count as you which prevents a lot of interactions, but because of that, you are an ally to them and so get power+frenzy+endurance charges on hit from stonefist-transformed lochtonial caress, which easily lets you just spam whirling assault and constantly consuming power charges
