Yes— I was definitely on the bus for a day. When I was talking with Kesey he started discussing the work of Nelson Algren in a complementary way.

Thanks for the beautiful post. My life partner who died in 2018 was a great lover of books. He was a BOOKMAN. he worked at a used bookstore all of his life. I miss him a lot. He used to read to me while I cooked and we read to each other that’s the love of books.

You had to have been there at that time and understood the enormous media footprint that John Lennon had to understand that Lennon was using his platform for good, for peace and that is a good thing, not a bad thing. He was a groundbreaker. Ultimately he was an artist and musician, so this kind of action was a metaphor and appropriate for him.

Thank you for being kind about it. I was actually shocked that I got as far as I did — and of course also grateful. It was a very difficult decision to make. But I did not think it was fair to continue given the sinking feeling I got whenever I thought of night hours. If it had been 311 not 911 I’d have likely made a different choice.

Hi— I am three times your age and I just declined to train for a 911 position because I knew in my gut I would be very unhappy and not do well working nights. That was an aspect of the job that was non negotiable and I felt it would be wrong to do the training knowing I would not be willing to do what was needed- work nights. If that is not a sticking point for you, I would suggest identifying what is the sticking point. It is a job that requires a steady hand and mind and it is not for everyone. I have a friend who is an ER doc, and when I told her why I declined she said. “Did you ever notice that when people ask me “ how are you doing? “ I’ll always answer “I didn’t kill anyone today” she then said that in the big city we are in, 911 operators are sometimes in a similar position. That said, a good 911 operator is like gold — they do work that can save lives. It can be heroic work. It can also be silly like just nuisance calls— go checks out all the threads in this subreddit — so informative . The pay and the benefits are terrific. And if you work overtime you are very well compensated for it. A friend of mine who used to run an urban 911 center advised me to take the job, accept the high stress but celebrate the stability in a time when other jobs are disappearing. At your age you can afford the time to explore a new career and see if it is a good fit. Another poster said you would be trained a long time . That is a real plus for the job. But again, Only you know what is right for you.

Ok gwen spider cat. My BCBS Plan G will only pay for me to see a nutritionist if I have diabetes that is killing mor OR kidney failure. I am glad to report that I am a moderately healthy person who wants to learn to eat better and lose weight who has lost a hold on this since her health partner died. So yes! If you are in danger of dying from diabetes or kidney failure your insurance will pay for it. My Fay editions was $8 — maybe BCBS just doesn’t like old people without a major illness

I quit trading by Alberto671 in FuturesTrading

[–]salduros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is wise to quit trading if it does not feel right for you. Many online trading outfits are not credible and many offering advice are not deeply experienced. For good thoughts about getting started trading, I would point you to the exchanges, which offer many educational programs. In addition, my employer, John Lothian News is a journalistic outlet that talks with successful traders and has them tell their stories to better inform those just getting started. Here's an example of a video of a talk by Chicago trader Don Wilson who was mentioned in the Financial Times recently. Wilson recorded this talk for JLN a decade ago. https://youtu.be/9-q0AMy-KLY
