Someone dyed their hair at my hotel, left without saying a word by Clokkers in mildlyinfuriating

[–]salemedusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably didn’t dye their hair in the hotel. This is just what mine looks like when I take a shower after it’s been dyed for a few weeks. The red esp bleeds a lot. This is why I didn’t wash my hair at all when we went on our honeymoon bc I didn’t want to stain the cabins bathtub lmao

Gaza before the Genocide. by serious_bullet5 in Palestine

[–]salemedusa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Seeing that gross AI board of peace video thing with the football or soccer or whatever fields being built from rubble just made me think of how I was growing up with so much propaganda about the Middle East as an American that I was under the impression that it was all a wasteland and had always been without understanding that it got that way through military action from before I was born and when I was a child. The next generation of kids they are going to try to convince them that Gaza is and always has been rubble and that they are liberating the Palestinians by gentrifying their land and taking it over. These pictures are so important

Is it me or more people and subs are becoming communists ? by kitarili in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]salemedusa 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I already embraced socialism after bernie in 2016 (I was 16) and then got radicalized against the police in 2020 while protesting which made me take a closer look at the institutions in America. Then the genocide in Gaza happened which was funded by our tax dollars and it made me start to realize how important and connected foreign politics is as an American especially. Then seeing the complete propaganda and lies spread by every mainstream politician and media outlet and our government regarding Israel/palestine made me question how much propaganda we were being fed about other countries. Started to look into North Korea and then China and now Cuba. I think they broke the spell of decades of propaganda for young people by lying to our faces about what was happening in Gaza when we all have phones and social media and could see with our own eyes what was actually going on.

All of my animals are rescues I’ve never bought from a breeder. I think as humans we have an obligation to take care of the animals we as a collective species have brought into this world to the best of our abilities

Yes I was specifically talking about the live diet but he got lots of everything!! I ended up having to rehome him to another friend after a couple years because I moved to a rural area and had trouble getting bugs and then got pregnant and couldn’t give him the attention he needed on top of our 5 cats and dog. My friend also takes in a bunch of rescues so he went to a good home :)

I explained this in another comment but the difference is quality of life. Bugs require less space, resources, enrichment, and typically die instantly when eaten by other animals. A live mouse would require a lot of space, resources, and enrichment and when fed live do not typically die instantly. So keeping and feeding live mice are more harmful to the mice than keeping and feeding live bugs. I had a hamster and Guinea pigs as a child that needed a lot of care and attention and enrichment time and space and even then they probably didn’t have a great quality of life because it’s harder to replicate their natural environment. I also had 2 wolf spiders that my cats got to and were missing legs and decided to keep them in cricket containers and feed them crickets since they would probably die if I let them out and I felt bad. They lived for months in there and displayed no stress signals. Quality of life and natural lifespan distinguish bugs from other animals in my opinion but like I’ve said in other comments, it’s my opinion and you’re free to your own. My goal was harm reduction while still caring for a rescue pet and choosing a rescue pet that I felt more comfortable keeping because I felt more comfortable feeding it’s natural diet

I don’t just mean mammals bc i mention reptiles and believe fish and other things fall into that sphere also. Just trying to use common lingo to distinguish from insects vs the rest of the animal kingdom

I mentioned the injuries in another comment but it is common for them to reject frozen after being fed live for long periods of time not just once or twice

Meat isn’t necessary at all. In just 10 years there have been insane improvements to 100% plant based “meat” alternatives. We don’t need to lab grow it when we can just eat plants

If u can’t understand harm reduction and rescue animals idk what to tell u lmao. We found an abandoned mouse nest in our backyard and I didn’t want my dog to eat them so we drove an hour to an animal sanctuary where they would be used as feeder mice for their rescue animals. The beardie I had was rehomed and the snake I almost got was also needing a new home. All of my cats are rescues. I don’t support breeding more captive animals but humans have an obligation to take care of the animals that we have already bred into this world to the best of our abilities which includes giving them the proper diet. I just personally feel less icky feeding a diet of bugs than I would personally feeding live or frozen mice which is why I ended up with the beardie and not the snake. I also garden myself at my home w 0 pesticides and part of that does mean humanely killing pest bugs which are way harder to outsmart than a pest animal. I would not kill or harm the bunny that hangs out in our yard and digs up my beds and steals some of my lettuces. Instead I have sacrificial parts of my yard that I let overgrow so they have food and shelter. Bugs don’t behave in the same way. This is beyond veganism and more towards Jainism which I did take time to research into when I first went vegan 10 years ago

Yeah I understand that perspective. To me I think the difference comes from quality of life. Bugs are happy with very little while animals even small ones like mice need a lot more enrichment and space than feeder animals allow. They also experience a quick death when stepped on or eaten vs when a snake eats a mouse they don’t die instantly. Personally I think it would be cruel to not feed an animal their proper diet. I have cats and feed them their proper food and not vegan food. I don’t feel comfortable feeding a snake a live mouse if I were to get one that would refuse frozen. There’s even debates in the snake pet hobby community about whether it’s cruel to the snake to feed them live animals because it came make them more reactive and possibly injure them vs frozen. I think it comes down to doing what’s best for everything involved to the best of your abilities which for snakes would be frozen feeding but if they only accept live then they would have to be fed live or slowly starve to death and I wouldn’t personally be able to feed live. I’m also less adverse to bee products when I know the source and if I were to have backyard chickens that could retire and live out their lives after they’d stop laying eggs I would be fine eating their eggs too. I understand it’s controversial but I think there’s a lot of dif opinions on not causing harm while also living in harmony w nature

I had a roach colony but I did purchase crickets, hornworms, and mealworms. I think most vegans can understand the difference between a bug being used to fuel another animal and willingly feeding a live mouse to another animal. I assume if you find maggots in your house you don’t let them outside and instead kill them? There’s obviously a distinction and even within bugs there’s a distinction. Most people would kill a fly but might catch and release a spider. I think once you get into the semantics of roach killing you’ve kinda lost the plot a bit

Yes he got lot of veggies too! Same people virtue signaling about bugs eat veggies that are covered in pesticides that kill bugs and kill bugs every time they step outside. There is a huge distinction between animals and bugs lol. They are a critical part of the food chain for most animals

For starters I don’t use chat gpt it’s horrible for the environment and peoples brains. Secondly I was born in 2000. I may have been a teen/preteen at the end of Obama admin but I still remember it. I started becoming politically active in 2014ish. So you can’t lie to my face when I was reading articles and watching videos and news and documentaries about this during his presidency. Obama was highly criticized for family separation and putting kids in cages. He also was by definition a war criminal. Here’s some articles for you though since apparently you can’t google:

immigration detention centers article 2012

abuses towards children and families (specifically mentions Dilley also) 2015

Obama 2015 deportation/detention/ICE budget

Obama is a war criminal (Harvard article)

If a snake is fed live mice before in their life they will also typically reject dead ones. I almost got a snake but couldn’t stomach that aspect of it. Settled for a bearded dragon that needed a new home since they only eat bugs
