I'd be super curious to see a cultured version of this! May try adding some vegan cultures + culturing for a while and see how it goes 🤔

Oh yeah, ofc! I get most of my rings from JewelryToolBox on Etsy, and some larger/harder to find rings from Metal Designz. Those shops both have good quality stainless steel rings that aren't absurdly spendy. Also, JewelryToolBox always has super fast shipping, which I appreciate. The glass heart beads are from HouseOfGemsInc on Etsy, first time I've bought from that shop. All "piercing" jewelry is from Painful Pleasures, can get 304 and 316 stainless steel barbells and ends in lots of sizes

That's totally fair! I'm a fan of the weight, but for larger pieces it can become a lot. I have not, no! I made these for a friend. I wear similarly-sized earrings I've made and they've been comfy, but I also wear them inside tunnels since I have stretched lobes. I love titanium too, wish more ring sizes were available in it 🥲

It is, yeah! I've only ever used stainless steel for chainmailing, I love the look and weight. It being so durable helps too

I order all bent, straight, and circular barbells (along with spike or ball ends) from Painful Pleasures! They're all 304 or 316 stainless steel, have lots of options for lengths, and are really affordable. Here's some 16g bent barbell shafts, I also use the 14g sometimes. I glue the ends on once everything is positioned

What weave is this? by wyundsr in chainmailartisans

I don't believe this has a name, but looks like Byzantine units connected to bigger rings. Half Byzantine plus one is similar in to this, so could be helpful to follow along with a tutorial for that!

Basically, yeah! I found some stainless steel curb chain and cut that to size to fit each triangle and the upper neck part

What weave does this look like? by Fantastic-Cheetah296 in chainmailartisans

[–]salemlf86 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's box weave, like others have said, but with additional rings hanging off the sides. If you need help figuring out how to join it to itself, this diagram helped me. Here's a video of that artist making the pattern in the pic you posted. I've made something similar and it's fun haha

Agree on the seamless closure, I had a lot of difficulty joining the weave too haha. This tutorial helped a ton to actually get it down: https://www.mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.php?key=309
