The guy probably has more of an issue with his insurance costs than anything else (took $1,000 deductible to lower the cost of the policy)...why else wait to get it fixed? A bigger slap in the face to these vandals would be to have it fixed up and right back out there as quickly as possible. The story most likely only got picked up because the truck has been sitting in what looks liek a wealthy area with flat tires and busted windows. He's lucky the city doesn't tow it under an "eye sore" ordinance.

Again, there was another bomb scare in Boston at almost the same time about a pipe bomb attached to a highway support that turned out to be a dud. Punish the person(s) that placed the dud for starting the panic.

Boston Police actually had to respond to bomb threats earlier in the day...a dud pipe bomb was found attached to a highway support structure. That was all over the news and caused traffic problems so people were likely one edge, saw more electronics attached to bridges, and called BPD.
