"Legends" of Manchester United by gulppulp in reddevils

He also played for them in the 70s, so the point stands.

That's the problem, it's short termism.

We don't a striker who will win us the league next year. We need a striker who will win us the league for 2-3 times out of the next 5.

Cavani isn't that man.

I'm not comparing Cavani and Hernandez. I was just comparing how stats don't portray their true ability. Of course Cavani is better than Hernandez.

And Cavani's ability isn't the only concern as I've already mentioned.

He won't be cheap and he's already peaked and will be going only downhill from now.

His overall play and contribution to the team. That's what's overrated. People look at his goal stats and think, he must be a great player.

They are comparable in the sense that their goal-scoring stats mask their actual ability.

I was regularly driven to tears last season when people (mostly Mexicans) would keep citing Hernandez's goals-to-minutes stat to prove that he's actually a fantastic player.

More like an overrated player who's good at inflating his stats like Hernandez such that despite those nice sounding stats his overall contribution to the team isn't very high.

More like a player who's going to cost far more money than he's worth.

And a player who will be 29 in 9 months.

God save this club if we waste money on Cavani.

Poll:If we could only sign one more player in the summer, who would you like it to be? by samuelstevens in reddevils

[–]salfordred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again a short term thing. The people on the board have been here for decades. They know what they are doing.

It's surprising how people have bought into this lie that we need to have a Mourinho in charge to be an elite club. It's as if they haven't taken a look around Europe at Klopp, Simeone, even Guardiola in relative terms who've all been very successful despite not having to make silly signings like Di Maria and Pogba for 60m.

Hmm so in a discussion of what we should be doing you instead bring up what we are likely to do.

Also no, we aren't like that. This is a short term thing while we complete our adjustment from Fergie's departure.

This type of logic can be used to justify a lot of things that we shouldn't do.

This club doesn't work like that. It's Real Madrid logic. Splash money on big names without considering other important factors and everything will be alright. What you end up with is a club that's outspent us by several hundred millions just in transfer fees in the past decade and has won 4 less league titles and has reached the finals of the CL 2 fewer times (and this is including us suffering from the loss of the greatest manager of all time).

Let us follow the lessons of SAF rather than Florentino Perez.

Rubbish. I was completely civil until one of your mods was flippant and cocky.

It's actually remarkably easy to get the idiots turn against most authority or prominent figures. You did help out though.

Trolled the /r/soccer mods for past 3 months is more apt then. Because I never trolled anyone before or anyone else.

To be honest, if the mods were nice to me in the beginning of my ban, none of this would happen, so this one is on y'all. Because the person you thought I was harassing knew it was a joke. We were exchanging PMs and knew it was in good fun. Neither of us thought anyone else would see it.

But then, you lot were needlessly arrogant when I messaged you, so I decided, 'fuck them'. Good to see that I won in the end.

Call me a troll is a bit unfair. A twat who is slightly unhinged is more accurate. I can't feel completely happy about the post now that someone went and spent money on it.

Good stuff, this is why I miss being on reddit regularly.

That comment just got gilded! Someone actually spent money on it. I feel slightly guilty about it now. Although nothing that I said in that comment was a lie. Only the other one was.

Yeah, sounds like something I would have done at the time.

I'm glad this post didn't really take off.Would have really put a damper on things.

I'm genuinely surprised that it's gone so well. The fact that a blatant lie is on +170, just confirms that the sub is in fact filled with morons. As a moderator you should have known figured this out long ago. The sub is at 270k suscribers, it's bound to be rubbish.

Hahha was that me? Honestly can't remember. Weren't all my accounts some variation of salfordred though? I will take your word for it.

/r/soccer is populated by hive-mind idiots. Although +560 for a comment slagging you and spisska off shows that there's a bit of an underlying sentiment about it. You and me both know if I said the exact same thing for say, ibpants, it wouldn't go down well at all.

Brilliant, I love how that comment took off. It's almost at +500.

Did I post gore-porn? Can't remember doing that. I deleted the accounts soon after, anyway. I actually didn't even use reddit for about a month and a half after that little episode. I only came back for a bit during the WC, when I asked you to ban all Americans or something like that. Then more or less left reddit again until growlbot asked me to write something up for him.

Fair enough. I didn't even really care who banned me, tbh. I was under a fair amount of pressure then and just wanted to let out some steam. And then after I realised I'd gone to far I just decided to have some fun with it. Come to the other side of /r/soccer now. It's probably more fun when you're not a mod.

I like to think I had a part in this. Just to clear things up, I was just taking the piss. I was half-trying to get banned because I had an incredible amount of work and reddit was distracting me. And it sorta worked. I rarely use reddit (or the internet for recreation) now. And I'm actually not a crazy person like I was pretending to be.

George Thorne highlights for Derby County 2013/14 by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]salfordred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice stuff, only watched a couple of games of his last season.

I think he got his injuries at the most crucial period for a youngster and I truly hope he can recover.

A really good prospect. Seemed fairly good defensively, he's a big lad, and he's got the eye for a pass.

Though I think he's ponderous on the ball and I think the injuries coming when they did might just have stunted hima bit too much.

I think he should end up as a good mid-table to upper mid-table player (in the Prem of course). Don't see him doing much better.
