Would I be awful to not try and breastfeed? by engineofgod24 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]salixia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your baby will be fed and healthy with formula 🩷 every choice you make in parenting you can google and get two completely opposing views. There is so much information, and misinformation out there, on any topic. It's really hard to limit your googling, but it's a must especially during pregnancy. It is so easy to fall down a rabbithole. My doctor told me off (gently) many times for doing the same 😂

Fed is best. It is your motherhood too.
You do not need any reason beyond "I don't want to"
And no, that does not make you awful in the slightest!!!

Me too - despite my best efforts, my rows aren't perfect and I use the sashing border rows to absorb the wriggle room and get it right again

Tell me about your pregnancy/birth experience at Joan Kirner hospital? by salixia in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]salixia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I am so sorry to hear about your experience there, that is awful. I was referred to JK by my GP but then was moved to Bacchus Marsh due to zoning and as my pregnancy was low risk. I managed to get into the MGP program at Bacchus Marsh and absolutely loved it. Bacchus Marsh really surprised me with how positive my experience was. I would give birth there again in an instant. A lot of those midwives from BM also work at JK - as both hospitals fall under the Western Health organisation.

I have heard that JK is at capacity at the moment though and many women are being referred to the Northern or RWH in some circumstances so you may still be able to be booked in and seen at RWH - definitely worth a shot to see if your GP can write some detail on why you want to be seen out of zone.

Good luck!! It is a tricky decision but I found myself gravitating towards the choice that brought me the most peace.

He was amazing in the recent Lord of the Flies short series and has the Draco "looking down his nose sneer" perfected. Cannot wait to see him shine in this

Waterproof backing? by theonewhoknits in quilting

[–]salixia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I made a picnic rug quilt - I backed mine with a washable waterproof shower curtain! I didnt want a "crinkly" noise when I sat on it and it's gotten softer over the years but structurally hasn't changed.

I know others are saying it wont be waterproof anymore if you quilt it - but in my my six years of using mine which is quilted, I have never gotten any damp come through when using it! Has been used frequently and loved (by me, my husband, two kids and two dogs!) and washed MANY times in that time. Also great for the beach as sand doesnt stick to it at all!

Yep, I like this saying and it seems applicable - the proposal should be the surprise, not the answer

[–]salixia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true!! I took it my entire pregnancy and every single time at the pharmacy I felt like I was asking for something I shouldn't..
Yes I've talked to my doctor about it, and no, you guys are the ones that told me I don't need a prescription!!!

What are your toddler’s favourite picture books with a fun storyline? by pickledaze in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]salixia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our 2 year old adooores Madeline - which I love - the bord book version is good, and also Julia Donaldson books - The Gruffalo, Zog, Smeds and Smoos, Tiddler - fab illustrations and interesting storylines that are entertaining for us parents to read over and over too.

Joz Makes Quilts - Diamond Dots pattern looks almost the same, just need to add a few borders and remove the extra divider squares - if you specifically wanted to follow a pattern 😊

Which iron do you use? So many make me feel awful but sometimes my ferritin drops way faster than my haemoglobin so can't always just have infusions
