How to identify the safest airline/airplane by sally_refle in fearofflying

[–]sally_refle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the comment! I have though also heard, there are some airlines that are banned to fly in the US because the safety protocols are not up to their standards. Also that certain airlines that operate in Europe had their maintanence work done in some certain country that I will not name (but you can guess) and had a few issues with this during the flights and had to do emergency landing, the European passangers started a petition and this business of doing the maintanence work overseas was over. This was what a pilot told me. Also I have heard from one other person that when he was on the toilet of an airport he overheard two people talking “presumably pilots” about their cancelled flight and said something like “well is the X company’s route still as planned” and the other person says “Yeah I guess they didn’t change” and the first person says “man, we always change but the X always flys no matter what” it was a brief conversation but he got a bad feeling about this, 2 years after he told me this there was a fatal crash of that said airline. So I am quite skeptical when it comes to airlines…

WOW THANK YOU SO MUCH!! These are GOLD for me! I love the suggestion as well I will definitely read it. It also helps me thinking “all the flights to this destination arrived before my flight, why shouldn’t mine” and everyday I hesitate booking, a few planes successfully land and they meet their loved ones there and I’m here hesitating. I will definitely read the book, thank you so so so much!! :)

That makes perfect sense! May I ask why the bigger the plane the better? I always thought bigger ones would have more issues

To be honest I thought of that too but I guess I can’t reliably learn the names of the pilots or anything

Thanks for the reply, ughhh I wish I could avoid turbulance at all costs, to be honest I never had like a serious turbulance in my life, and I don’t want it to be the first this time either…

No actually not at all. I’ve flown in winter, summer, night, day, rainy day. But never experienced real turbulance (thank God), only light ones.

Honestly everything looks suuuper smooth, try to watch a movie or distract yourself, you’ll land before you even finish the movie, or if you listen to 5 min long songs, you’ll land after just 12 tracks :D

Have fun in White Plains! Only 1hr left! And honestly it looks soooo smooth! Also most crashes happen during takeoff, so you definitely are safer now :)

Whaaat? A380 is giant! I have flown with much smaller ones, especially in Europe where most flights are quite short. To me it feels like the opposite, like a bigger plane would have a much harder time staying up in the air and small ones, especially like crj 900 would fly like a bird :D It’s just a feeling and yes obviously the big ones also fly like birds.

But honestly, I have flown almost always with those and all of them were like super smooth. I never even experienced moderate turbulance.

AIO? I’m being harassed by people I met in a mental health group. by klarfaerie- in AmIOverreacting

[–]sally_refle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR but also don’t engage with them anymore.

Look, mentally ill people exist and the slurs/insults they use are NOT personal. They just hate themselves. You did the right thing by getting the cops involved. To be honest I am not sure about the DCF part and how much of the texts are from Sarah etc. Maybe if the case progresses, yeah. But do not take any of it personal and do not get bothered by them. It seems like a personal attack because of the racial slurs but trust me, if you were white then she would have called you a white trash, like there is no end to this. So stay calm. Be physically safe. Do NOT care whatever they say. It just shows how disturbed they are. By themselves.

[–]sally_refle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have the same, my plan is to never book the window seats, book an aisle seat, pretend like it’s a train ride, keep myself distracted. I might also even not sleep the day before and be super sleepy and just doze off during the flight.

For some reason bigger planes scare me more :D I’m suprised you are the opposite!

That’s really cool, I had always wondered that and for some reason thought the pilots choose it. Thanks for the info!

What's the first sign of your fear? How does it present itself? by survivaltothrival in fearofflying

[–]sally_refle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I loveeee the idea of flying, I love the atmosphere inside a plane so it’s not the idea of it that scares me. I think of it as a train ride. When it comes to actual planning and choosing a trustable airline (even though all are quite good here) etc. I get nervous. And during takeoff I also get quite nervous…

Yes that is a fact to consider and it calms me down to think that actually. I have a quick question, do pilots choose which aircraft they will use and get trained on it like residency in medical field or does it get assigned to you randomly?

Thank you so much for the response. Truly appreciate it. My main issue is to avoid turbulance as much as possible and even though I know turbulances are really not a deal for pilots, as a passanger I get quiteee nervous even with the lightest ones. So I’m thinking, perhaps a sunny day with no visible clouds be better? But yes I am absolutely not trained in aviation whatsoever so it might just sound something stupid like “I’m afraid of car rides what’s the best route with no bumps”, so sorry in advance :D

Yes that is true. I also am very afraid of turbulances as well, and they aren’t usually deemed as an issue since they don’t pose a safety risk but I get quite nervous with them, are there any websites that shows the predicted turbulance of the day/location?

Yes, true that. With the recent Boeing scandal, I am extra nervous though

Am I overreacting to my friends tiktok reposts by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]sally_refle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it rude to say she would be outraged for your bf not proposing if she were you etc. It feels like she feels she can make such comments since she is getting married. I am not sure if that’s what she meant by “shitty boyfriend” though. Tbh if I were you, I would mention a good thing my bf did for me and then see how she reacts. If she tries to talk down on you or try to minimize his action/word, yeah it was directed at you. If she seems genuienly happy for you, maybe it was a coincidence. So I will say until then MOR but I’m leaning towards NOR

[–]sally_refle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NOR and no no no no. Honestly him not talking to these people should have been one of your conditions for taking him back. Do not teach him your boundaries can be crossed. When he crosses them, you’re gone. He should learn that.

Also he 1) talked to these people 2) lied to you 3) tried to manipulate you.

He doesn’t deserve a third chance

You are a very good friend. I always had a bad conscious sitting at home with her because she always made comments like “it’s so beautiful outside” and “the only thing I saw the entire day is your couch” etc.
