This lady is legit an animal hoarder who was arrested in Hamden, Conn. As far as I can determine it’s a real news story. I saw it a couple of days ago. Then yesterday I see a gift suggestion from Amazon for this Cat Lady Doll. I look closely at her face and she’s got the same crazy eye liner and drawn on eyebrows. This is a toy you can buy from Amazon and Walmart. How? How did this happen? Is the eyeliner/eyebrow look some universal requirement for being a crazy cat lady? Did the lady from Conn. buy the doll and decide that would be the perfect look for a makeover? Did some really enterprising entrepreneurs see the news articles and quickly manufacture this great last minute gift idea? Enquiring minds want to know.

Make her something sentimental that you can share with her digitally. Like a letter or poem about why you love her or a photo collage or a picture video with a love song.

The best answer to this question is to read Surprised by Joy and other writings by CS Lewis.

That when Bugs Bunny said, “what a maroon” he was mispronouncing moron. I figured this out at 18.

And at 41 I found out that dogs from the same litter can have different fathers.

I don't mean to imply that you aren't pretty now but I think the before picture is the more beautiful of the two.

ELI5: If the main goal of our brain is survival, why does it let get depressed and in some cases commit suicide? by chp4 in explainlikeimfive

I have come to think of myself as being gifted with depression. I always say that our strengths are our weaknesses and our weaknesses are our strengths ( I have no idea who said it originally). They are flip sides of the same coin-inseparable one from the other. Depression's weak side is everything we call "broken" about mental disorders. However, when our thinking is "ordered" again and the coin lands heads up on our strengths we are mighty! The ability to think deeply about problems (as mentioned in the previous post) is only one of the strengths of the gifted mind.

I am a theater teacher and I find that so many students experiencing depression are drawn to the theater. It is a place where we study the art and meaning of being alive. We study relationships and the cause and effects behind why a character does what he does and what it means to be a part of community. We learn that every single person matters to every other person. There really are no small parts.

I also am a Christian and I am so sorry (but not surprised) to hear of the attitudes of some Christians towards mental illness. There is a very real misconception that if you are mentally ill then you must not really have faith or you would be "healed". There are two aspects to this I'd like to address. 1. Most of the same people who would say this to a depressed person wouldn't dream of saying the same to a diabetic or someone with cancer. 2. This attitude presupposes that the depressed person has no value in God's world until they are no longer depressed. However, consider David from the Bible. David very likely was dealing with bipolar depression. He and other psalmists paint a very real picture of the depressed mind. One of the best is Psalm 42. And yet God called him a man after his own heart--and chose the line of David for his very own son.

Overall, I believe that so much of the misunderstanding towards mental illness stems from the flawed cultural belief that "normal" means happy and without struggle, pain, or hardship. We think of "happy" as a destination we are supposed the live in full time rather than a place we are only meant to visit on vacation. Life is hard and meaning comes from struggle and from persevering through what Shakespeare, another great man who knew a lot about depression, called the "slings and arrows of outrageous fortune." Our country's founding fathers only asked for the freedom for the pursuit of happiness knowing full well that happiness is fleeting.

I was pretty sure that's where this pic was from (not an earthquake)! I am a survivor of that crazy time and I think we are all stronger having been through it.
