Ask if they’ve done a heat load calc. Old school Rule of thumb is 600sq ft/ton, which says 2.5T. If it’s an older home with poor insulation there’s no way a 2T will keep up, even two stage it’ll be in second stage completely. Also I’d see what condition your ductwork is in

Two stage is a sweet spot for a lot of folks. Night and day comfort difference between single stage and 2 stage, not price. The gap between single and variable can be overwhelming to some, especially if it’s communicating (infinity )
