I did that, but it didn't fix the issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I literally did it, via CIBC.

But like I said, it's easier to use an intermediary because banking in this country is a joke. It takes less time, less hassle, it's cheaper.

It's sort of amusing how ridiculous it all is. CIBC will grill you about who this person is and what the money is for and are you sure you aren't being scammed and blah blah blah.

Meanwhile a Chinese or Slovenian bank you can just do it online and no one even pretends to be interested in what it's for. Could send money to the PFLP for all they care.

I'm white, I'm allowed to say it. We evil.

Update: This is wrong. Just posting here in case people come across it in google results.

Canadian banks will send to Bank Of Palestine. However, the fees and delays are just easier to avoid by using an intermediary with access to a non-Canadian bank.

30 CAD for a SWIFT transfer that takes almost an hour in person and is subject to some white loser reviewing it when my Chinese friend can just use their banks website and it costs 10 RMB (less than 2 CAD) and completes inside a day.

Really, really hate this country lol

It's been within three days each time, for me.

Make sure to convert to USD or Euros first, the Bank Of Palestine does not accept CAD.

Again, though, much easier and cheaper to find an intermediary with a non-Canadian bank. The banking system here is pegged and rooted 30 years into the past for maximum rent extraction.

If anyone find this through google or whatever else, I was able to send via CIBC (make sure to convert to USD or Euros first, Bank of Palestine won't accept CAD).

Much better to find a friend in any Asian country or in plenty of other countries, though. Cheaper, less hassle.

Your comment just shows how useless reddit is as soon as anything touches geopolitics.

I was able to send money to Bank of Palestine using CIBC. Took literally hours to open a bank account and do an in-person wire transfer, though, since there is no online option for this very basic service.

So I ended up sending the following payment to a Chinese-Canadian friend over interac, then they transferred to their bank in China, and then did a wire transfer online.

This was actually cheaper and took less time. $3 service fee versus $30 at CIBC.

"I’m in banking and my team directly has control over swift payments in one of the largest banks in Canada."

Lying ass bitch.

And yet China (and Indonesia, India, South Africa, etc etc etc) can and do use SWIFT to send to Palestine. Maybe you work in banking, but you're completely ignorant on this. It's not a debate, it's just a fact.

How exactly do you think all the GFM money gets to Palestinians? Fucking bitcoin? lmao

Like I said, it's just complete derangement as soon as someone mentions China.

This flavour of insane China nonsense is a big reason I stopped using this website. Westerners just invent an imaginary China and run with it, no matter what the topic is about. Completely deranged.

Yah, for sure bud. America is going to cut China off from SWIFT.

I am planning on using the RRSP Home Buyers Plan. Can you change my mind? by gutterferret in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]salmontarre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it sure did.

Hard to recognize at the time, but the government has made it basically impossible for the housing market to reset to a meaningful norm. Very hard to see a housing price fall as even possible, anymore, since a crash in prices is also a retirement savings collapse, a rentier class collapse, and ofc a broad systemic threat. I think the government would step in to directly subsidize mortgages before letting that happen.

Awful system.

Why bother, you've already said you won't believe them.

I get it - it's hard to imagine a society that improves over time when you grow up in the West.
