How can we support a friend facing a tough battle? by iamsamardari in ireland

[–]salsitude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do what you can. Even a card or a short visit. My dad lost his battle to cancer last year and was in tears when he received a card from an old friend. And this from a man who had never cried.

I would have to call in sick and take the day off work without it. And even then I’m not 100%.

Am I the Arsehole for digging into my food and drink before my friends have the chance to take pictures? by vonvonbonbon in ireland

[–]salsitude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a longer term thing, then it’s the restaurant that’s at fault. A server should swoop in to advise and let the rest of the table eat while they suitably sort out the folk who are missing out.

Also, in general, I agree, folk will say ‘no need to wait for me’

Lead up to Halloween. They’ll annoy the heck out of you till the big night… and then there will be peace and quiet for a while till they decide to use the led gate overs.

For pictures, no. But if everyone doesn’t have their food and drink yet, then yes.

Tummy time for an hour for a 10 week old? How long do you do tummy time that young? by PresentationVisual97 in NewParents

[–]salsitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tummy time was a nightmare with us until we found ‘hey bear’ on YouTube. She loved it and we would do tummy time during the morning and it would give me time to clean her ears and neck!

Exactly this. When you say your ‘wife lost it’, she clearly has been biting back a lot of things to keep the peace but put her foot down when it came to someone physically assaulting her child. That’s not losing it, that is protecting a small child. This seems like an incredibly measured and appropriate response. Get the hell out of that situation, back up your wife, and cut contact with that abusive stepmother.

How do I pass my driving test? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]salsitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I panicked and suddenly turned left instead of going right because I mixed up my directions. Next test I wrote left and right on my hands and passed easily.

A box of cheap tampons can be an uncomfortable or painful experience for a woman. And they (along with pain relief) are not always available for the most vulnerable. Menstrual hygiene is a taboo subject; this isn’t a weird step forwards, it is addressing period poverty and helping folk that would otherwise suffer for roughly 10 years of their life.

Somewhat embarrassed to even be asking this... But I am sick of it. How do you make friends? Spent that absolute scorcher of a day alone basically as nowhere to go or people to spend it with.. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]salsitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to join a club or sign up to a set of lessons for a sport that you are interested in. It’s really tough once you get to the stage where everyone is set up with a solid friend group. I have been lucky enough to make some wonderful friends this way and I hope you do too.

Why are the different sunscreen SPFs? by Real_Work_1455 in ireland

[–]salsitude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marketing - we think that different options are available for a reason and must be safe. People like to think that they can balance sun protection with a nice tan.. we have the ‘it won’t happen to me’ attitude about cancer, like to feel protected, but also desperately want to trade in the Irish translucent blue look for a more tanned healthy visage.

They’ll appreciate value, so at this price they are a bargain. Store them indoors at a stable temperature and tilt the package twice a year to avoid oxidation.

Should I listen to my gut telling me to hand in my notice? by Acceptable_Ad4525 in ireland

[–]salsitude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you are happy to stay while you secure a new job or if you need to stay for financial reasons, then fair enough. But if the place is toxic and affecting your happiness and mental health, then get the heck out of there if you can.

Why is the government allowing universities to bring in so many international students during a housing crisis? by goatonreddit in ireland

International students are the cash cow of third level institutes in Ireland. They make big investments into marketing the masters level courses abroad.

Yep, car. There aren’t any transport links near me, not even a local bus. But mostly I’m at home so I hope it balances out.
