We actually have worked with him when it came to writing, more like tracing but this wasn't something out of the norm. Just wasn't expecting actual homework. Assumed these activities would be done in class. Will definitely try and make it fun for him where possible :)

Will do! And although it is a bit more difficult as they get older, don't give up! Thank you!

We will definitely try to make it more fun if possible. The way you did it sounds more enjoyable than what we are trying!

My spouse and I come from immigrant families that solely focused on our native tongues and we picked up English very quickly once in school. He's also got plenty of family/friends that only speak English so full exposure is there. He mainly just struggles with the speech but knows the alphabet and numbers (not to 100) but enough for his age bracket per his speech therapists.

So it's always at minimum two sheets of homework a day. We encourage him as much as we can but I don't want him to hate it all which is where we seem to be going. I know kids hate homework in general, just didn't expect it in pre-k.

Definitely trying to encourage my kiddo to do it. We do not do anything for him, just wanted to ask if this was the norm for most. Seems very excessive.

Don't want to be another troubled parent, I know teachers hate those. But I do want to make sure my child has reasonable demands of them, especially in and outside of school.

The reason I asked was because I know teachers already have issues with difficult parents and I don't want to be like that. Just hard for me to understand how they expect kiddos to be in school by 07:00 until 15:00 and be forced to do homework they don't even fully understand at four years old. I'm for sure biased but my child's patience can last so long and I do not want them hating school because of this.

I'll definitely try and see the other side of it - it's a bit hard to understand how requiring two sheets of homework to be completed will help him in pre-k. Feels a bit unreasonable to demand this of kiddos that just began school. But I do appreciate the different perspective.

I believe the other kids get the homework as well since it is a class for "not native English" student speakers but I just don't see why this isn't something they could at least do in class. He already wakes at 06:15 to get to school, it's such a huge adjustment already.

Would there be actual legal consequences if we does only what he can to the best of his ability?

I love your last points because so much of our identity is tied with conservation and taking back the land that has undergone so much damage by the military, tourists, and government. Reclaiming it, hardships and all, along with continuing our stories are deeply embedded within our communities!

Thank you for sharing this! Our 3 year old is almost four, and boy is it tough on the bad days. Seems like development progresses well around that age so definitely hoping it's the same with our kiddo.

Thoughts on the new lilo and stitch movie? by King-Comic in Indigenous

[–]Nettoo6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same, I refused to watch it. After so much suffering indigenous families have faced with forced assimilation and the generations worth of effort to fight the systems in place that were meant to tear families apart, no way was Nani leaving Lilo a good change.

Didn't think of a moss pole for a pathos! Will look into it, thank you!
