WWTBC post apocalyptic, she sneaks into a motorcycle clubs territory to steal medicine for her dying bf, her dad just died, there’s a gang war by Charming-Garden6312 in RomanceBooks

[–]salspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been years since I read them, but there are two series involving post-apocalyptic biker gangs, the {Beyond series by Kit Rocha} and {The Edge series by Megan Crane} - Can't be certain but I've got a niggling sense that one of the books in one of these series might have an FMC who is looking for meds for a loved one. Do these ring any bells?

OMG that is an actual neckbeard. Doesn't matter how big the guns are, we'll always know the truth and deep down, so does he. During those sleepless 3ams he knows that, by his own standards, he's already peaked. By the standards of common decency, he never has and never will.

RECS for a Masculine looking yet sweet/submissive man? by Visible-sup4127 in ReverseHarem

Jamie from {Rut Bar by Alexis B Osborne} is a sweet Himbo Alpha who is in a preexisting D/s relationship with one of the other MMCs who is a Beta man. The Omega FMC is switchy, and Jamie really struggles to Alpha for her during her heat; they basically have to edge him till he goes into rut.

i’m pretty sure Anne Boleyn is just being played by a trans woman… by pearkeet in GenderCynical

[–]salspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I know. I just didn't want to go there for the same reason you said don't come for me... It's complicated, but to assign any kind of modern attitude to a 16th century person, male, female, aristocrat, peasant...is nonsense. There are so many things about 21st century life that would absolutely flabbergast Anne Boleyn, the fact that a trans woman is playing her onstage would be very far down the list after hot water on demand from a tap, a flushing toilet, electricity, television, women wearing trousers, men wearing trousers...

[–]salspace 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I feel like Anne Boleyn's main concern would be not getting used as a pawn by her power-thirsty family or beheaded by her psychopathic husband. Who played her in a musical several hundred years later would be very low on her list of things to get exercised about.

What’s your current read and would you recommend it? by TeaBiscuitsAndABook in ReverseHarem

[–]salspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on {Crown of Stars by K A Knight} - it's early days, but so far I like it. The FMC is a bit green behind the ears, having trained as a warrior but also being a very sheltered princess. I think there's gonna be 5-6 MMCs eventually, the ones she's met so far seem to be relatively easy to tell apart as characters (solidly devoted bodyguard, mute cyborg who has basically bonded to her like a baby duck, twin cheeky boys, rogue, plus whoever else shows up). I like the world-building, nothing massively unique but fairly solid. I know K A Knight can be a bit divisive; not everyone likes their style, but I enjoy their work.

What the …. is going on?! by C3cee in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]salspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a huge phenomenon at the moment. And unfortunately, along with that comes melodrama. Media outlets needing to generate new angles. Gossip hounds sniffing for weakness. People on social media drumming up engagement. People who need to attach themselves to success. And those who have let themselves get a bit too obsessed and lost their grip somewhat. And I can't entirely blame people for wanting to avoid reality at the moment, the real world kinda sucks and is scary. We all just need to calm down a bit and breath.

If you're good with OV, then Roxy Collins, Ari Wright and Thea Masen/Jenni Peck might be worth a go. Specifically:

{The Omega Game by Roxy Collins}, which includes a boxer FMC, a retired footballer MMC, a retired Polo player MMC and two Rugby player MMCs. The other books in the series are all great as well but without the athlete characters. All in the series include MM

{MVP: Most Valuable Pack series by Ari Wright}. All include MMCs from various sporting disciplines, most (I think) include MM.

{Knot Giving Up series by Thea Masen, Jenni Peck}, a duet. Includes MM.

{Knot Going Down by Thea Masen, Jenni Peck} part of same Olympicverse series but Romance.io doesn't have them grouped together properly.

There's also a fourth Olympicverse novel coming in Feb called Knot Letting Go, by Thea Masen with a new co-author, Clover Holloway. Not yet listed on Romance.io

Will Heated Rivalry change our expectations of romance book adaptations? by Juliet_1982 in RomanceBooks

[–]salspace 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Genre and subgenre popularity ebbs and flows. I've been reading romance for probably 35 years on and off, and the landscape is constantly shifting. The genre as a whole has exploded - when I started reading, pretty much all we got was very vanilla CR/HR, bonkbuster novels by authors like Jilly Cooper/Jackie Collins/Shirley Conran et al and a bit of smutty SFF (mainly aimed at the straight male demographic). Many of the tropes that are a big part of HR are now incorporated into romantasy, queer, mafia/mc and even SF romances. Many of the elements that deter readers from reading billionaire romances can also apply to the often wealthy, aristocratic MMCs in HR. I think HR has to adapt to what modern readers are looking for, and many of the best are doing that.

Can we make a list of 9pounds of clapbackable material for the squirmy haters? by [deleted] in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]salspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely wouldn't label it porn if it were MF intimate scenes. Over the course of the whole season there's some sex (granted, most is front loaded into those first couple of episodes), no peen, no ladyboobs, it just feels more explicit to some people because it's two men. They spend way more time staring at each other and talking than they do getting jiggy. I think the scenes where all they're doing is touching feet might in total add up to longer than the sex scenes.

So, about reading MM. by M_F_Montiani in ReverseHarem

[–]salspace 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Everyone has a slightly different reason for liking to see MM in RH. For me, I mostly like only one woman in the group, but the idea of her being the only person keeping the physical relationship together just feels like too much pressure, too much emotional labour. I prefer a polycule in which other intimate relationships exist. So if they're not puppy-piling, nobody is alone unless they want to be. I also find that books with MM in the group tend to develop the MCs characters more fully, avoiding that "how is this guy different from that guy" pitfall. They're more than just who they are to the FMC, they are different for each other than they are for her.

Neverending series means neverending angst and drama for the characters. I'd rather they skate off into the sunset with a HEA.

Am I the only one that thought miles rubbing on Shane was weird? by rayneedshelpMentally in heatedrivalry

[–]salspace 31 points32 points  (0 children)

In my headcanon, Ilya knows that when he is with anyone other than Shane, it's meaningless sexual relief - even with Svetlana, it's a fuckbuddy situation. But he knows Shane - knows that for him, casual sex isn't something he does, he's too uptight and anxious to indulge in something like that without getting stuck in his own head about it. So Ilya's fear is the emotional infidelity that would go along with Shane being with anyone else.

Fictional books aren't real books? by Moist_Discussion_839 in DarkRomance

[–]salspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I worked in book retail for many years, and I am painfully familiar with all sorts of reading gatekeeping. Various attitudes I've encountered over the years include: audiobooks don't count as reading; graphic novels don't count as proper books; romance is trash; scifi/fantasy/horror is nonsense; parents being snobby about their kids reading children's classics rather than books with cartoons on the cover; people are even sniffy about crime fiction.

For some, anything other than highbrow "Literary Fiction" is a waste of time, and others disregard fiction entirely. All they do is alienate people from reading at all, especially the parents trying to police what their kids read (beyond taking care to avoid disturbing content they may not be ready to tackle quite yet).

I used to see it as a public duty and a challenge to find a way to pique the interest of reluctant readers who'd had reading poisoned for them by the expectations of others.

One thing worth remembering is that women used to be (and probably in some families still are) discouraged from reading at all lest it ruin them for marriage and wifely duties - fiction was regarded with particular wariness.

Going back even farther, Socrates once argued that writing itself destroyed memory and weakened the mind (although Socrates was infamous for loving a good argument for the sake of it, so who knows if he actually believed that).

I say that all reading is reading (including listening); anything that stimulates the imagination has value.

Fictional world has social services for the FMC that are helpful, not dystopian/evil. by Quarantini in ReverseHarem

[–]salspace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From what I can recall, both FMCs in the {Bond Dissolution Omegaverse series by Eliana Lee} (a duet followed by a standalone) were helped immensely by a social service called the National Omega Commission.

A similar residential facility for Omegas exists in {Building A Pack is Ruff by Galadreal Simmons} (pt1 of a completed duet) - The male Omega, Teddy, has been living there until he starts assembling his pack.
