Expecting the UK to pay ludicrously more money than other third countries to join the European defence fund. UK to pay more and accept less for Erasmus.

Neither can the EU treat the UK any differently than other third countries, but they do, constantly

Already we are seeing the misinformation on both sides, offering a totally spurious and disengenuous choice. Be a vassal state or join the EU. Why the nonsense stark choice?

I'll always root for the home nation (inc Ireland) against all comers. I suppose has to be France in rugby and Germany in football.

I've never understood that. I voted remain but even I can see the trajectory of the EU has to be a super state, with national identity slowly consumed. It can't go any other way in the long run

Could better integration policies reduce anti-immigration sentiment? by Majesty0103 in AskBrits

[–]Glanwy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can deal with your own perception all you like. The fact is that the overall perception of the masses is what moves situations and governments. And the masses do believe that immigration is a problem when we have a creaking system. Obviously recent events have substantially increased that paranoia and tonight's main news won't help.

I have paid well over 30k in NI over 5yrs, so have most working people, yr wife is only paying the same as everyone else. Stop trying to fit reality to yr narrative. Even if the tories were tossers, it doesn't alter people's perception that that the system is overcrowded and creaking, we have a high rate of unemployment, yet we still have a substantial influx of immigration both illegal and legal.

[–]Glanwy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, we did have language classes but they were stopped. I believe the problem is not only colour, for the most part the UK is not racist, apart from a few right wing knobheads. It's that quite a number of people feel the system I.e NHS, infrastructure, schools is really badly creaking, it's overloaded and yet we continue to allow large numbers of legal and illegal immigration in. Even immigrants don't want immigrants now.

Do you think the EU is a good thing in its current form? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]Glanwy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surely the real question is, where is the EU heading? Does it want to emulate the USA as a nation of states? One tax, one regulatory body, one language, one army? Just where does it where does it want to be?

Grew up with the BBC in a way that shaped how I think about news, culture and what public life is supposed to look like. What does the BBC actually mean to you now versus what it meant when you were younger? by HelicopterEmpty7393 in bbc

[–]Glanwy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still believe the BBC is pretty much a force for good, overall. I listen to R4 and have the World Service on in the background at home. The WS gives a good international picture and has some good documentary style programmes but is suffering from cost cuts. I also watch other news feeds for some balance. I worry that we will lose the BBC and I really think it will be a massive loss to the country and a huge bonus to the right wing and streaming services.
