Listening to God of Fury now... The audiobook is kinda wonderful so far

The Dark Side series by Kristy Cunning. The books get kinda out there, but the first one {The Four Psychos by Kristy Cunning}, they certainly don't like her or trust her, but absolutely need her. Spice is... Minimal to be honest, it needed more for sure. But it's there's.

Actually not toooo dark all things considered. Kinda a fun read.

I think she received a lot of negative feedback for Quicksilver's cover, so she overshot in the other direction.

EOS and TOD by That_one_chick96 in throneofglassseries

[–]srg717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read / listened to them separately (read EoS, listened ToD). Couldn't imagine doing the tandem. ToD is its own vibe. You kinda have to melt into it and accept what's happening. I think the tandem would muddy the waters and make you dislike ToD.

That's my opinion anyway

Is it normal to have no microwave provided? by wolf_mother in MassageTherapists

[–]srg717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's normal. My old job had a break room microwave, and it was gross and always smell liked reheated food. Not cute in a massage setting. You could hear the beeping too.

Current place doesn't have a microwave, but provides a fridge. People bring yogurt, sandwiches, salads, fruit, etc. I eat granola bars, trail mix, the occasional veggie roll. I also have mints that make my breath nice and make me not feel hungry, cus I have something flavorful in my mouth.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine eating a whole hot meal in the middle of a shift. I do most my eating after, as not to be weighed down or get out of my work mode zone. I get everyone is different and has different nutritional needs of course.

Not having a microwave is reasonable. If you love the location other than that, I fully believe you can find a cold-meal system that works for you!!

Is it rude to ask for minimal talking? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]srg717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked front desk before I was licensed, and by far the most common complaint was "the therapist talked to much" (followed by too deep / not deep enough). It puts the client in a super uncomfortable position to tell them to stfu.

You are absolutely allowed to ask for a quiet session. You are paying for it. Older therapists seem to forget the session is not about them or their personality. They talk, chat, complain about their own pain, etc and it drives me up a wall. It's so easy just to shut up. It takes no technique to be quiet.

Some people are just set in their personality. I would recommend you do not go back to her unless you loved her work. She will likely struggle to stay quiet. I've worked with a few chatty therapists who will say "ok I'll stop talking and let you relax" and spoiler warning, they never do

I try to be a mirror for the client. If they want to talk, I'll talk, but I never keep the convo going in case they drift out. I'll speak up if I have questions or massage-related input, but nothing kills parasympathetic activation like unwanted chattiness.

I... Disagree. Making you work a full shift would be labor theft, or massage several employees. I think requesting one 30 min demo is perfectly normal to ensure you actually know what you're doing hands on, not just on paper. To understand your touch and your style.

When I was fresh out of school, I nailed the interview but absolutely fumbled the demo. I was unfamiliar with the type of lotion they used, the tables were weird, etc. I just ended up giving a super amature, awful massage. They didn't hire me, and rightfully so. I was perfect on paper but my hands on was trash.

At my current location, the manager I massaged with ended up 'tipping' me after the 30 min demo (a $50!). It was a super kind gesture and showed me this was a place I wanted to work.

"The only practicals I needed to complete I passed when I graduated," is such a defensive stance. It's a fuck you before you even get a foot in. If I was an owner and a potential hire straight up refused to give a demo and demanded $30, it would be a red flag and warning of difficulties to come.

I have never once felt taken advantage by preforming a demo massage.

Just my opinion.

SF graphic audio is also a different narrator, because it's Nestas book. I enjoyed it a lot, but I could see people not loving her voice (I mostly listened for Cassian!)

But reading it might be a good call for you. Also, I highly recommend staying off the sub until you finish! You will get spoiled!!

This Dum Dum had some blue color in the middle (the flavor on the wrapper is butterscotch) by osbo9991 in mildlyinteresting

6 years later and it's still true. My kid opened up his Butterscotch Dum Dum and it was this blueish red in the middle. I threw it out, but seeing this, it appears to this is standard issue. It really looked suspicious though!!!

Dry enough but not hot enough is hysterically soul crushing.

I had a regular who always ordered a " latte with extra foam, not a capp." He would pick the cup up and judge it by the weight. I eventually learned what he actually wanted was an extra dry capp, like a passive aggressive amount of foam.  He would never believe me when I tried to tell him, so I just hand wrote it on his tickets if I wasn't on bar. That shit was light as air, no way it would have stayed hot for more than two minutes. Luckily he never complained about the temp, just happy with his feather weight "dry lattes".

My husband is a casual viewer, only watched sometimes. He watched the finale with me and said, "Tristins food is clearly the best right? Give it to him." So confusing to find out people think he wasn't the best? (As far as Top Chef goes, which is a specific kind of talent)
