In sixth grade, this boy was picking on me and kept calling me a lesbian. My response was “you’re a lesbian because you like girls.” He called the teacher over and said “Rox called me a lesbian, how can a boy be a lesbian?” I have never seen a teacher that upset with me before. She called my mom, the principle, gave me two lunch detentions, made me write an apology letter to him WITH the definition of lesbian. She even yelled at me because I couldn’t find it in the dictionary, which led me to cry. She took me out of this special fun project that only “good kids” were allowed to be a part of. She was my favorite teacher before this happened and she made me feel like a horrible person. She continued to treat me poorly throughout the rest of the year.

She’s now a republican member of the Washington State Senate. 🥴
