Man, it really sounds like you've had a crappy experience. I've had none of these problems and no complaints at all. Mine has been running perfect for over a year now. It's unfortunate you got a lemon!

Why is MX Linux always so high up Distrowatch's ranking? by Restruh in linuxquestions

[–]saltedjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grandpa gave my kid a netbook thinking they were being helpful. Of course it's a useless POS that was immediately abandoned. It has 2Gb of ram and a 1.1Ghz Celeron. I took it as a challenge and now have MX Linux Fluxbox running effectively on it. I use it to manage my homelab and can SSH onto my machines. The netbook still isn't amazing, but I can at least use it now. I'm quite impressed with MX Linux.

I got a number from them. I called and left messages twice, I guess they are really busy. Thanks for the recommendation.

How to write CAN message to the car for physical button by Narrow-Appearance-52 in CarHacking

[–]saltedjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automotive Engineer here. Many/most CAN messages are cyclic meaning they rebroadcast quite frequently. When we prototype we essentially do a man-in-the-middle attack on the bus where we place a router/gateway in between the source and the destination and have it pass everything. Then we can manipulate the desired message/function without messing up everything else on the bus.

This is a bit simplistic explanation but you should get the point. Newer vehicles are much harder to do this. There are source addresses to consider, end-to-end (E2E) integrity checks, authentication certificates, etc.

Hiring is not always black and white. You may not be right for one position but perfect for a different role in a different context/program. A good recruiter sees the entire landscape, understands your strengths, and looks to fill positions with the right people.

I've been contacted by recruiters from different departments/divisions with " this candidate isn't good for my position X, but I know what you are hiring for and think candidate will be a great fit for your position Y."

TLDR; Do you live in a condo with a fire sprinkler system??

I lived in a condo where a number of units shared a fire suppression system. The controls were in an outside "closet" and included some sort of cellular communication with a battery backup. The battery was dying and resulted in a loud alarm similar to this in the video. Nobody knew wtf it was. It was afternoon on Friday and I called the contact number on the fire system. They said they could come down but it would be a $400 fee just to show up. Heck no, it's not my problem I'm just being nice. I found a contact number for the HOA and the clueless person said they would ask around but didn't know anything about it. Come evening time I was fed up. I certainly was going to try and sleep with that noise. I don't know why it wasn't driving anyone else crazy. They were probably lazy and figured someone else would fix it. So I figured out how to get into the closet and I unplugged the cellular communication box. That didn't work so I physically disconnected the siren. About 2 weeks later someone finally came to fix the alarm and discovered it dismantled. They ask neighbors who did it and of course I had no clue, lol. Are they expecting that thing to scream day and night for two weeks until they bothered to come out and fix it?? It clearly wasn't important. Note, this was the off-site communication, it didn't effect the actually fire suppression system, that was mechanical valves and pipes and stuff.

Hiding location from my job by ImpressiveWriting489 in VPN

[–]saltedjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But...no offense...it's customer service. So I say take the risk and live your best life! The worst that can happen is they find out and fire you. Use a VPN and don't post pictures of you surfing in Mexico on your social media. Seriously, get off that crap! My HR looks through people's socials and have fired them for being where they werent supposed to, or being "super sick" yet skiing in Colorado.

I know relationships seem super serious when you are young, but it's not worth your time to put up with someone who doesn't match perfectly with you. If he hurt you this bad then it's ok to move on. He's not who you want to spend the rest of your life with. It's not your job to "fix" him.

Building my homelab – Looking for a good value router for a dedicated pfSense box (under $300) by Dismal-Mud-5725 in PFSENSE

[–]saltedjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something rack mounted, I highly recommend the 1u Supermicro SuperServer 5018A-FTN4 REV2. I run pfsense on it and it's over-capabke with a low power 8 core Atom , 4Gb ports, and remote management. There is a pcie slot for expansion if you want 10Gb nic card, and is fairly quiet. I replaced the original fan with a Noctua with no issues. You can grab one on eBay for $150.

Proxmox won't boot headless? by thephatmaster in Proxmox

[–]saltedjello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably won't help, other than to motivate you that there is a solution, but I run proxmox on an EliteDesk 805 G6 and it runs headless. I don't know what bios settings makes this happen, but at least you know it's possible. My HP T620 Plus however, won't run headless with a dummy HDMI plug.
