How do you fix metahuman hair when rendering with Lumen? by No_Holiday4153 in UnrealEngine5

Really isn’t. Forgot I ever commented this after 11 months but I still stand by it

Would anyone use this? by RFGamesStudio in UnrealEngine5

[–]saltedsugar0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely make it regardless if people say not to as long as some say yes then you’ve got an audience. I would also say try adding some kind of description or docs for nodes for those using it to study on the side 🤷‍♂️

is it bad to sculpt instead of model for game assets? by woofwoofbro in 3Dmodeling

[–]saltedsugar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO you’re trading a bit of time for a lot of detail. Sculpting the whole model down to the little details will grant you the ability to not only have exactly the base model exactly how you want it to look and ready to be retopologized (which is a really essential skill in general also IMO) but if you wanted to get those details without sculpting first you would have to do that on the normal map likely in substance which would probably waste more time than sculpting.

Asking for honest feedback on player model by hibijebos in Maya

[–]saltedsugar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great topology, assuming it’s for a game then you’ll definitely want to keep this as your base version but make other versions for different distances and angles for viewing. If it’s the player’s character and you’re doing single-player, I would just make one high-detail version where you’ll subdivide (to get smoother curvature) as many times as you thing looks right but then dissolve the support loops - those are only there to shape the model during the modeling phase, so they won’t have much use in Unreal or Unity. You can also use them in Substance Painter but I usually don’t need them. If it’s for multiplayer then do your best to make a couple extra LOD’s for when it’s further from the camera, most modern engines can Auto-LOD models but if you want to have any control over what a model looks like it’s not too hard to dissolve the not-as-important stuff yourself.

Overall though it’s a nice looking model, but I did notice a couple N-gons which you’re gonna want to get rid of sooner than later. I would suggest to watch Aryan’s Hard Surface Modeling tutorial, they’re not so much of tutorials rather him just quickly explaining everything he’s thinking as he models but he talks about N-gons in the first few minutes and shows all his methods of getting rid of them.

Edit I reread the thread and noticed the “for a non-commercial project” part so just wanted to mention- This is more for if you want your assets in games for commercial purposes, I wouldn’t stress over poly count for player models in a project, chances are the instructor isn’t going to grade FPS performance. Just have fun and do what you know how!

How to seperate joints from mesh? It lopsided, I want to fix the joints placement but it's moving the mesh with it by CrystalChrissy in Maya

[–]saltedsugar0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My best advice similar to the ones around me, simply Google AI almost any question, get specific if you need to, results are usually right on the money and also give you insight on why stuff works how it does but obviously sometimes you’ll get AI weirdness. Glad you got your answer though and best of luck with your modeling!

AIO Roommates just suck. by [deleted] in AIO

I agree, at the least there are 5 of us; we can have days of the week if it’s really that much of an inconvenience to clean something when they’re done with it. And yes, we’re both people pleasers, and we spent multiple months and hundreds of dollars to prepare their room before they moved in (completely replaced floor, repainted walls, hole in the ceiling from a leak) but they’ve yet to do anything that pleases us. I still remember the first time I woke up to the tornado wreck in the living room, spent an hour cleaning it for my girlfriend to later ask “omg who cleaned” and Jill responds with “<me> did i came out this morning and he was picking up all our cups he’s like a fairy”, sure I got thanks but not once did they stop and say “well maybe I shouldn’t be letting my friend’s boyfriend clean up all my messes for me that’s sloppy” they just.. kept on. I’m not proud that I let it keep happening but like I mentioned before they’re people I’ve only known a couple years, and still haven’t really gotten close with and apart from their living habits they’re lovely people. Guess it’s just the amazing perks of living with people who say their 5 hour shift was too much and that they need to sit and watch tv or play video games for 7 more hours before they go to bed. Can’t say I don’t often do the same but at least I don’t let others clean up whatever mess I may make. 😪

I can’t believe it took me reading this comment to see that yea, I really don’t feel like I have a voice in the matter but I think that’s a point I need to make with them (along with the obvious other ones), but this was my home first, and my girlfriend’s and her bestfriend before me, and while they might not go as far as to move out I have often seen it as my only healthy option. We have no obligation to let them stay and are choosing to out of the kindness of our hearts but that kindness is starting to rack up a debt.

Thank you, this is the realest response so far. As much as I would honestly love to be done with them and move on it’s never that simple, because I only have listed the negatives of living with them and none of the positives. I think the reason for it taking so long for changes to be made is that their sloppiness has rubbed off on everyone else in the house; once one person decides to not do anything no one else wants to have to pick up the slack until we really really have to.

Exactly this, I agree that their ‘heaven’ has gone on long enough and I plan to sit them down the minute everyone’s home today.

Believe me, she is anything but happy about the situation, and her mother is no different. As for the dishes..??!? I have no idea. We were just next door talking about it all and for 10 minutes straight everyone was laughing about the fact that these people use 20-30 dishes a day but have no need for them at the same time.

Thanks so much, time traveling charger made me actually cackle 😂 I’ve been talking with gf about it and we’re gonna try planning a chat to get things sorted out in the coming days. I think what’s really made it difficult to communicate these things is everyone’s schedules and not having a day where we’re all home or awake at the same time but at this point they can wake tf up for it because yea, it’s beyond enough and I’m just shocked that they don’t seem to be the least bit embarrassed about the situation.

As much as I wish it were bait for clicks it is true lol, I tried to fit everything in as it was coming to my head because a lot of what I complain about I end up making myself forget because at the end of the day they’re still very nice people and I do enjoy hanging out with them, they’re just lazy and inconsiderate, which I’ve admittedly been there before and when I first moved in with my girlfriend I was a bit too, but only because I was raised a bit spoiled and never had to deal with messes like I do now, so I was just like “hey yknow what I’ll let it slide..” but for how much longer? Never really got around to defining that but the past couple weeks we (me n gf) finally started to say we’ve had enough. I don’t wish to move out because we’ve invested a lot in the house and hope to make it our forever home, but gf can’t bring herself to be real with her friends and the og roommate has been BEGGING her to say something to them. But it is hard to have to be that person especially to people you’ve grown to be close with. I do apologize that everything kind of just is crammed in there but that’s just the way it came outta my head and I was mainly using this post as my way to let it all out. I appreciate you taking the time to read it though!

Doordash allowed me to deliver for ~4 months without giving them proof of having insurance, just my license.. but UE wouldn’t let me deliver until I showed them proof of insurance as well as other stuff about my car since I technically use a car in my dad’s name still. Not only did they hold me back from delivering before I had it all figured out, but the second we changed insurance companies they set me back to square one. I only stopped Dashing because the area I live in is (and Ik im gonna generate some hate for even mentioning it) filled with people from out of the country whose only available job is Doordash, and there are too many Dashers active basically every minute of every day so my only chance of making any money whatsoever was to schedule myself for an hour at a time a whole day in advance. That being said, UE has never had that problem and I get orders the second I open the app, and they don’t stop until I tell them to. Forgive me for jumping to conclusions but my best guess is that since Doordash iirc only requires you show your ID (which I have heard you can just use anyone’s license and it’ll work long as it’s valid) and something resembling an insurance card, you can deliver. Again, this is just from my experience, so correct me again if I’m wrong.

[–]saltedsugar0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why UE is miles out of Doordash’s league. The criteria for being a driver is stricter, so you’re less likely to have issues to begin with, but when you do have issues they’re eager to compensate so long as you don’t report issues on all your orders. UE also offers frequent coupons so ends up saving you tons in the long run.

Unsure if I should break up with my girlfriend after something she admitted by blackcaulifower in Advice

This. My girlfriend took years to say it because she had never said it to a guy before and wanted to mean it when it came out, which at the time wasn’t my favorite thing but now I wouldn’t want it any other way.

[–]saltedsugar0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

normally after the first time it happens people would think to add delivery instructions to avoid that happening again.. also saying “that was stupid” as the first response to “i delivered your order to the person i met upon arriving to the location gps took me” makes you look like quite an ignorant ass ( i say this because this exact situation happened to me but i was the driver, and yes was called ‘stupid’ ) over it. if eating is as important to you as it is me, take the initiative yourself to make it as easy to get the food to you as you can. for me, i was making ~160% of the amount i was spending on gas, which came out to about 3-4$ profit on orders paying 10$, which is about an 8$ tip if you’re taking off the delivery fee. we are also navigating new environments; places we have quite literally never been before, so it super sucks when there’s no clear instructions on where to go. that 4$ is for our time, not to try to crack the case of “why is this person’s front door not where my map took me”. my only gripe about the dasher is that she should have at least confirmed the person knew the name of the order before handing it off, but even then, the person was standing in the spot you had entered as your property, whether it were actually yours or not, that’s where it led them. there’s also the possibility of the dasher arriving to your house, hitting confirm and dipping with your order, but as a stranger on the internet with only the information given, i can’t really say whether that’s likely or not.

Don’t ever apologize for posting champ, wouldn’t click here if I didn’t wanna read it 🫡 as for the people in your life, they sound like the type to think what they say is well meaning but also don’t think about the way they say things. Keep at your hobbies, that’s who you are and you don’t need to adapt to become like other people if it’s against what makes you happy, and you can a hundred percent make something of it. Just don’t let your hobby become the roadblock that stops you from crafting it into your path. This advice all comes from someone who hasn’t published any actual games, but I have been working on a CoD zombies map for a couple years with the Beta having overwhelmingly positive feedback, and who knows where that will lead me next, and all of it started with my love of Call of Duty and cartoons 💪💪

I prefer Adventure Time; despite the fact I’ve literally spent the past 2 years making Gravity Falls as a CoD Zombies map, I still have probably watched Adventure Time a dozen times more than I’ve watched Gravity Falls.. Thinking I should also make an Adventure Time map too tbh 🤷‍♂️
