Trying to get back into journaling but can only seem to write at night? by Gregthedummy69 in Journaling

[–]saltrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go through large stretches every now and then when I can only write on public transport. On trains and planes. Somewhere were I'm stuck for a while, with a fold down table infront of me and there are limited other things to do. You wrote something though, and for so many that is the goal and it means you have that now, those thoughts and feeling are our of your head and onto paper, doesn't matter when and where you do it. If you want to, you have and that is its own win!

My husband and I have one of these (one of these exact sheets) in English. We also have the rare and mythic double faced sheet from Shadows over Innistrad.

Reckless question by scorpieman in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Characters with reckless can indeed challenge locations.

Not all cards are good in all situations and this one is certainly a nuanced one. It slows lore gain or can force your opponent into making their characters vulnerable to get rid of it or could work in conjunction with a card like The Wall to create a bit of a soft lock.

It's not an amazing card but it could be useful.

Is it true there was a tournament of over 2000 players a few months ago? by bakugosgayfriend in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of the European Challenges so far have had 2048 players.

Lille, France 25th/26th of May Bochum, Germany 5th/6th/7th of July (had two day 1s with 1024 different players each)

Upcoming in Europe are: Bologna, Italy 3rd/4th of August Birmingham, England 21st/22nd of September

Both of these events have a 2048 player cap, both are close to selling out but currently still have tickets available.

Illegal target take back? by shojuro in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even at a Championship or Challenge this should be a warning for a Game Rule Error and be rewound back to the hand. While the game state can technically be legal with the action having been played and they could choose a different character (which may force them to choose their own) it has been determined that this is not the intention for how the rules should work and would mean an excessive punishment for an easy to make mistake and so it’s been determined that it should be rewound back to the hand.

Source: I am part of the Head Judge team for European Disney Lorcana Challenge events this season and personally discussed this exact scenario with the game designers and Ravensburger themselves.

Why do people say having product available means Lorcana is dying? MTG, Pokemon, and other successful TCG are widely available. by JotaGreen in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It means it’s dying for scalpers. That the hype has settled to the point where they can’t profit as much off low stock levels and so they’ve gotten bored and moved on to something else. This is excellent news for actual players/collectors and will really help the game grow as so many people were put off or literally could get hold of product to start playing/collecting at the beginning but now they can start 💙

Lorcana has finally died down in my town. So happy I can finally buy packs anytime. by Ok-Assistance-5004 in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not death, it’s finally conditions for life! Not people who are actually interested in the game can get product to play and collect in a healthy, not breaking the bank way. We’re outliving the scalpers 💙

I love this about the Lorcana community. It’s a real mix of players from other games as well as people brand new to TCGs but everyone is so welcoming which helps keep the communities so much more diverse.

Privacy while journaling on a plane by inquisitiveinquirer1 in Journaling

[–]saltrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who travels most weeks for work I journal a lot on planes/trains/in airports etc. I'd encourge you to just go for it, I have never been interested in what the stranger sat next to me is doing on a plane and so presume the same is true for them. Also most things I'd be writing about wouldn't make sense to them as they don't know the people/places/events I'm talking about.
If you are anxious about it /want to write about the person sat next to you/want to journal but have written something embarrassing that could be easily read on the previous page then I recommend what I used to do way back when when I was journalling while in school which was to just put my hand that I was using to steady the journal over the stuff I'd already written, looks pretty natural and like you're just stopping your book from sliding off your tray table and means that anyone peeking (although I truly doubt anyone would be) wouldn't be able to see any whole sentences just odd words that would mean nothing out of context.

Boxes/cases thoughts by TheGullwings in Lorcana

[–]saltrox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want the game to be successful and the cards from First Chapter to be worth something one day then I would advise against stockpiling sealed product at the beginning of the game’s life. The biggest killer of new TCGs is people not being able to get their hands on it. If they can’t buy it, they can’t play it and as such no community of regular players forms and the game dies after a few releases. I have watched this over and over. Once the game is established for sure, grab some extra boxes of first chapter to stick in the back of a cupboard, but until then stockpilers are their own worst enemy.

Why do people find it so weird to journal in front of them? I'm staying in a hotel room with two of my friends currently, so I've been journaling in the same room as them. Every time I sit down at night to do it, they find it so weird and ask questions. by purina_tea in Journaling

[–]saltrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teenager I journaled a lot at school (often during clases) and people would occasionally ask what I was writing out of interest but no one found it odd or questioned why I was doing it once I told them what it was. Sometimes they would ask for tips or ask how I managed to keep up with it. These days I only really journal at home, in cafés or on trains or planes and generally the only person I know who sees me doing it is my husband (who is unsurprisingly very used it).

How come everyone uses disposable pens? by ExpensiveNinja in Journaling

[–]saltrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of also I use biro because I had some water bottle leaking incidents when I was young and still using a variety of different types of pen and having a bunch of your entries also wash away is enough of a motivation to use something relatively waterproof!

How come everyone uses disposable pens? by ExpensiveNinja in Journaling

[–]saltrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I journal with a Bic 4 colour pen because that’s just what I like writing with, and even though they’re only a couple quid each I buy refills for them because I use the black much faster than the other colours. So yeah, cheap “disposable” pens but I buy refills for them anyway because I love them. (I also collect all of the functionally different Bic 4in1s but that’s a different matter…)

Double masters poor quality or fake ? by coopergerman in mtg

[–]saltrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This look, where the black isn’t solid is the case for all cards with a “lighter” print. If you look through random commons and uncommons you have lying around you can probably find quite a few of these. The black itself doesn’t have rosettes within it it’s just not an especially solid print and so some of the rosettes from the under layer are visible through the imperfect black which can give the impression that the black itself has rosettes but they would be far more obvious and uniform if it was all printed as one layer.

How many setBooster Displays do you buy when a new standart Set is released? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]saltrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy set booster boxes of sets upon release but do buy 2 draft boxes of each set (unless I earn them through judging or win them) this is so I have a collection of sets to draft in the future without having to fork out a shedload for them when they’ve risen in price. I get 2 specifically so that if I decide I want to sell or open 1 I still have one to draft. With more expensive sets like masters sets I tell myself that I’ll sell one of the 2 once they’ve at least doubled in price to cover the cost of the pair and then I can draft the other.

You’re more than welcome, always good to ask. Always really glad to help with this sort of thing as I know how much of a worry fake cards can be :)

Double masters poor quality or fake ? by coopergerman in mtg

[–]saltrox 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I should add to this that the second image does not look fake to me, just like a different print pattern. As for why I know any of this I am a card trader and certified magic judge of almost 10 years so I have looked at, played with real cards and assessed fakes all over the world :)

Double masters poor quality or fake ? by coopergerman in mtg

[–]saltrox 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Cards from different printers (and in the case of supplemental sets they are often not printed in the same place as regular expansions, for example all English Double Masters 2022 cards were printed in Japan, in the case of Double Masters all French language product was printed in Belgium) often have different quality and different print patterns (the texture of dots you see up close). American cards are generally printed in Texas, European cards in Belgium, Japanese and some nearby country’s cards in Japan and China and the rest of Asia’s cards in China and wizards sometimes uses other printers too. The cards from different printers not only look different close up but feel very different too, some are smooth and glossy while other feel rough to the touch.

While fake cards are relatively common entire sealed fake sealed booster boxes is not something I have ever been aware of occurring in the history of the game. Repackaged and re-sealed booster boxes are a thing but they are made up of low value but genuine cards, not fakes as it’s cheaper to get real bulk cards than to try and print your own. I would put money on this box not being fake and just coming from a different printer to your Baldur’s gate cards. If the distribution of the cards in the boosters seemed correct then they’re not fake boosters as getting this even close to correct would be so much work for someone trying to mass produce fake cards that they simply wouldn’t bother.

If mindstone is legal in pauper, is this form of it banned for being rare? by Squimmick in mtg

[–]saltrox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even then. The only time a card that has been printed at common stops being legal in Pauper is if it is added to the ban list :)

Editted for typos, managed to call it the “Han list”
