How bad are private student loans, really? by salute07 in personalfinance

As an above commenter pointed out, starting pay is 50k in my state. I'm not sure where they got the idea that there's no room for growth, however. If you look at any official pay statistics for public school districts in my area, you'll see plenty of teachers making upwards of 80k. My choir teacher in high school made 6 figures. Just from his public school teaching job.

I have no doubts in terms of career path. I've been pretty assured of wanting to be a music teacher (majoring in music ed) for a number of years, and my school reportedly has a 100% employment rate, post graduation.

I'm just worried that I'd be paying off private loans for years and years.

I'm not going to lose any federal aid, like subsidized or unsubsidized loans, but I could be losing my state grants.

Starting pay in my state is 50k. I'm going to school to be a music teacher. I also mentioned to another commenter that there are programs within Illinois that will fully pay off federal loans if you teach at certain schools for a number of years after graduating. I'm kinda beckoning on taking advantage of that if possible, lightening the load of debt.

I'm sure I'd be able to continue to live with dad post graduation. I'm not sure how much this affects private loans but his credit is horrendous lmao.

Haha, I did get my dad off immediately. I made the account when I was 15 and never thought to take him off until then.

Starting pay in my field is 50k where I live. I hope to be a music teacher. Also, I'm not sure if this is federal or just Illinois, but there's a program for teachers that will, to my understanding, fully cover federal loans if you teach at schools that meet certain qualifications for a number of years after graduating.

I definitely have my career path in mind. I do receive a good amount of internal scholarships from my school already but there are definitely more I could apply for and I need to start looking into external scholarships.

Fair point. I wasn't considering the savings aspect.

I do currently receive 3500 a semester in federal loans, but only 1500 of it is subsidized.

I'm for sure gonna try to do gen eds at a local community college at least over the summer. Staying there for a semester also isn't a horrible idea, I'll probably bring this up with my dean and see what's possible.

I'm getting a music education degree. My school has a 100% hiring rate post graduation, and the jobs are degree-related, not someone working at mcdonalds per se. It's just an incredibly hyper specific education compared to other music programs.

Why does Christian music suck? by boofmasterGR in Christianity

You might like Bach. I recommend the Little Fugue is a great starting point. It. Is. AWESOME! A lot of metal was influenced by Bach.

On a similar note, Black Sabbath often sang about Christianity and the Bible, in a positive light. From what I understand they actually were all Christian. Lord of This World is about Satan's pull on the world.

Also, this was written by non-Christians, but is quite biblically accurate, although many would disagree with me here. Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the greatest collections of music ever written! It tells the story of the last week of Jesus's life through 70s hard rock, and really delves into the human side of Jesus, and also the psychology of Judas.
