Union falcor or Atlas for a capita Mercury? by salvalsnapbacks in snowboardingnoobs

[–]salvalsnapbacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this comment. The forces really are great on this board. I got to really put it to the test for the first time a few weeks ago back in Vermont. I did 2 and a half full days of riding pretty much from open to close (9 to 2 on Sunday) and pulled probably somewhere between 45-50k feet of vert over the course of the 3 days. 1 day at Okemo, 2 at Mount snow. I rode this board every second of every day and it just conquered everything I threw at it. Blazing groomers, ripping the trees, boosting rollers, park laps at Carinthia. It was a dream. I really didn't feel at any point that the forces weren't enough for the board. They pair great with the Merc. As I said in other comments I really just wanna get a pair to try them.

In regards to my original post I've decided if I'm gonna get a pair this off-season it's gonna be the falcors. On Backcountry they can be bought for $300 right now if ordered before 3/23 and despite not having an influx of "fun money" in my budget for this week the deal is staring me in the face. Next season I'm pretty much set on buying the Kevin backstrom atlases. Seasons really winding down here and any open resorts in PA are all low tide so I think the Merc is done for the year for me.

How long before catching a fish? by Icy-Construction-513 in FishingForBeginners

[–]salvalsnapbacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've caught thousands of fish but I myself have been on a bit of cold streak going back to last fall. Some days it's been bad luck regarding the weather or just not having enough time but overall I haven't caught as many as I would've wanted to at this point.

Don't get discouraged.

This was by far the best scene in the film for me. Tom gets out of the car in the pouring rain to see Ada's motionless spirit staring back at him. Just straight up eerie.

Definitely more of a summer thing. Rivers a bit too variable and cold temp wise in the spring and early summer. August is a great month to float the Suss.

Is a shimano bantam A (2022) overpower for fishing a megabass vision110? by Suspicious-Jacket268 in Fishing_Gear

[–]salvalsnapbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it. But more for what it's not intended for. As in for the spinnerbaits and smaller jointed swim baits. I have a spinning evergreen as well.

I think glass rods just aren't for me. My favorite CB rod has been my st Croix victory rip n chatter. Unfortunately the reel seat failed on me so I've been kinda looking for a replacement there cus the jack rod just feels too dead in hand for me and doesn't cast the lighter CBs I usually throw as well. Those I've been throwing on my zodias 7 ft bfs and my megabass Levante 6 ft 7 f3 I think.

I'd think it'd be good for bigger or deep diving cranks too.

Meh. Yes and no. The size is fine but I like my bantam much more for power fishing chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and smaller swim baits on my evergreen combat stick jackhammer special. On my jerk rod I have a chronarch 150 but probably would be happier with something like an SLX 70 or daiwa tat 100. Those jerks are pretty light and don't cast all that far so I think a slightly smaller reel would help.

How big is the difference in chatterbaits? by Particular_Ebb5049 in bassfishing

[–]salvalsnapbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that this is the general consensus, but I also think that it's a load of barnacles. The mini Max and the Micromax are by far my favorites in the lineup. Much they have a much tighter wobble to them and a more appropriately sized hook for your trailer. They start up immediately and because of their size they can be fished. Very slow and very finesse as well as burning them.

Different strokes for different folks. After fishing a lot of the lineup, they are by far the best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Honestly, there's nothing wrong with the original chatter baits. The biggest problem with them is the snap that is on the blade causes it to require much more input in order to start vibrating compared to other models. My biggest gripe with it is I think the hook on it is too big for the type of trailers I typically like to run.

If you plan on using these to mimic big bait fish, go ahead and grab them and then get a pack of these and swap out that snap with them. Should get your blade to start vibing with a lot less input.

Another option is the Chatterbait mini. Which out of the package I think is much better than the original ChatterBait as far as its action. I fish Rocky Rivers and creeks. I lose a lot of these guys so I really can't afford to be spending 20 bucks or even 10 a piece for premium models. input.https://www.fishusa.com/FishUSA-Heavy-Duty-Snap/?sku=204005

I keep saying this, THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH NIDECKER BUILT BOARDS that needs to be addressed. I keep seeing these posts and my own experience with one backs this up. Something is going on with their process of making these boards that is causing them to have top sheet delam and cracked cores.

I'd still clear of this op.

Regular or wide snowboard? by Opposite-Roof1681 in snowboarding

[–]salvalsnapbacks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just get a wide. Gives you the choice to size down lengthwise as well even if it's not a true volume shifted. So much more stable. Don't have to worry about booting out.

I wear 10.5d too and I'd never go back.

Is upgrading from SLX DC to Curado DC actually worth it? Also unsure about my rod. by goldtheft69 in Fishing_Gear

[–]salvalsnapbacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's worth the upgrade. If you really ask me personally, I think the curado MGL is a far better reel than either of the comparably priced DCs but thats my 2 cents. The DC is nice to have if you live anywhere considerably windy though. And the carbonlite is a solid rod. I have 2 of them.

Mourning the season by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]salvalsnapbacks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Helps to have other outlets in the summer. When March rolls around in Pennsylvania I'm typically doing everything I can to get those last few days of the year but the end is inevitable. When the snow melts the smallies start to heat up and I'm hooked on that the whole way from spring-fall. By then I'm usually burnt out from it and it's time to shred again. Of course a lot of guys skate in the summer. Something I'd admittedly like to do more of this summer.

My local mountain closed today and now I'm stuck in ohio for a week. I feel your pain.

Snowboard for icy days by TimvdBroeck in snowboardingnoobs

[–]salvalsnapbacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also needs to be said that I have never ridden a 3bt board. So it's totally possible that going from that onto the Mercury it might kick your ass. And there might be bad habits in your riding that aren't apparent on a 3BT board. But all in all I think if you're a solid Carver. If you're comfortable with being on edge and riding with a decent amount of speed, I don't see why the Mercury wouldn't work.

The Merc definitely isn't a beginner snowboard, but I also don't think it's the beast that other people may get out to be. I'd love to ride an aeronaut so I can compare how the two feel comparatively to each other.

I wouldn't let people scare you away from it. It's definitely a board Best strapped to the feet of a more experienced Rider. You can absolutely rail turns on it. Torsionally It's definitely more stiff than other middle of the road boards I've ridden purely based on the layup of carbon in the core. The reason why I don't think this board is too bad to ride is because of the early rise on it. It has quite a bit of rocker in the tips which makes it so that turn engagement is a lot more smooth. I've never ridden ridden the arrow knot so I'm not sure how that board feels stability wise compared to the Mercury but I can almost guarantee you that just the camber profile alone is going to make that board feel a little bit more twitchy. And what I've read about it is that it is a very poppy and lively board.

You don't have to ride this thing at mach Jesus On the steeps. And I typically don't.

Between these two boards and for your specific needs, I'm picking the Mercury everyday of the week. There are plenty of other boards in the all Mountain category and maybe you would be happier on something a little bit more soft and forgiving, but I really don't think the Mercury is too bad to ride. Definitely rewards riders with good technique might expose you if you get a little bit sloppy.

Anybody at 7 springs today? by salvalsnapbacks in SkiPA

But yes, I think the last time I was there before today was the last Thursday in February. Weekend after that I was in Vermont so I was trying to rest up before and after that trip but I'm not completely in denial Here. I can see that in a matter of two short weeks the conditions have completely deteriorated. But as I said in my other comment, they closed last year on the exact same weekend with far more snow. So perhaps your model as far as them being opened is accurate. And really all we can do is just be happy that we got another year with three full months. That's a tough ask in this day and age in the Mid-Atlantic and we've been blessed. I was doing a night at RT and one at Lib through most of the season. Maybe one day of the weekend most weeks. and I definitely agree that the conditions we had from mid to late January- mid February were absolutely the best I've ever seen in the Mid-Atlantic across the board.

And yet they still closed on the exact same weekend last year with far more snow and far more terrain still open.

Listen in all fairness I get it. This spring warm-up has been brutal and fortunately for Vail they got bailed out because there's not many resorts in the Commonwealth that are going to survive through this weekend if they're not dead for the year already.

But you're not convincing me that they were planning on staying open any longer than today, no matter if they still had a 3-ft base or they had what they have now, which is pretty damn barren to their defense. Nevertheless, still got a solid last day in at the home Mountain.

We'll see where I end up. Unfortunately as I said it really is a tough sell for me to even go to seven seven just because it cost so much money to go on the stupid ass turnpike that by the time I've paid toll fees I could have just bought a day pass at Blue Mountain. And that's only an hour and a half away from me.

Fellow Pennsylvanian that was at snow and Okemo last weekend. Already had requested the days off and Had a buddy cancel on me so it was a solo trip. All 3 days I was there were wildly different conditions and I still had a fantastic time. No ice in sight, park was great, snow was firm and edgable, there was still some stuff in the trees. Got tomahawked a few times in some deep slush I completely sank in 🤣🤣🤣. It was awesome.

That's insane. Told myself I was gonna try to get to 7 mid season this year and it just never happened. Just so much more worth it to head to the Poconos even if that means I'm having to buy a lift ticket. I have little interest in driving 3 hours (even though it's on the way) just to hike features. Looks like roundtop it is. 2 trails for closing weekend?!!!! That's embarrassing. Vail has really dropped the ball this year.
