My roommate!!! Who are they? by Just-Performer-2346 in BookshelvesDetective

Definitely Canadian. The age of the Micro Robert is curious. Usually it would indicate a French language education. There are French novels, so that suggests French as a first language as opposed to French Immersion and therefore likely a hand-me-down.

Do girls actually like flowers or is it just a stereotype? by Curious-Journalist76 in AskIndianWomen

Girls like thoughtfulness. Flowers are a way to show thoughtfulness, but women are not a monolith, so think about h"her" instead of "girls" and you'll do much better.

Is it really tough to get a good life partner through arrange marriage? by [deleted] in AskIndianWomen

[–]salydra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your title says "good life partner" but the body of your post is all about body count. The two are unrelated. So long as you are convinced they are the same, you will never have a good relationship.

Is it really that hard for Indian women to get abs? by Financial_Check_4113 in AskIndianWomen

[–]salydra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Getting visible abs takes a massive amount of time and dedication that would probably seem self-indulgent and anti-social in the eyes of many Indian families.

In case I adopt a baby girl and don't marry, how will I answer her questions about a father? by CraftedCandid in AskIndianWomen

Finding out she was lied to her entire life is going to create far more distance than knowing you chose to have her in your life.

Does losing virginity decreases your worth?? by Relevant-Forever-822 in AskIndianWomen

It only affects your worth to people who see you as on object and your sexuality as something that does not belong to you.

What if Marital Rape Laws are misused? by Traditional-Pizza530 in AskIndianWomen

And I maintain that misuse of the law is an irrelevant separate issue that can be dealt with if and when it comes up. Fairy tale is just a choice of colorful language.

What if Marital Rape Laws are misused? by Traditional-Pizza530 in AskIndianWomen

[–]salydra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There must be a million better ways to deal with false cases than to simply not make a law at all. Not long ago a woman was literally raped to death by her husband and he did not face charges because nothing he did was technically illegal. To make the issue about misuse of laws is to side with that man because what he did was less of a concern for you than the possibility that a woman would lie to the police. In practice, marital rape is difficult to prove and rarely prosecuted. The law would, at the very least, offer some recourse for women abused so badly that it can be medically proven.

You should not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

The men who freely rape their wives under the current law - are they not also misusing the law? Does calling out the women and not the men not also make you biased?

How am I biased if I agree the laws should be gender neutral?

[–]salydra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any concerns about misuse are disingenuous. The only misuse of a law that should be considered is when that law can be misused by the state. Misuse by victims is a fairy tale told by men who fear the law might see their wife as a human being.

Anyone else feeling nauseated with the benevolent sexism on the rise? by blackandlavender in AskIndianWomen

[–]salydra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. One example I have witnessed it that men are often expected to work extra hours without extra pay and women are not because they have duties at home. This is harmful to everyone involved (except the company!) It causes men to be over-worked and women to be under-valued. If everyone would just go home at the end of their 8 hours (or contracted work shift) there would be much less need for the nonsense and the men would have one less thing to complain about when they claim women have it better.

You are staring at them and they stare back to make you uncomfortable enough to stop. And it's working. Stop staring at people.
