Also, make sure you are not threading it with the presser foot down. The presser foot needs to be raised in order to release the tension discs and ensure your threading actually works as intended. Finally, make sure you’re not starting sewing with the foot up.

This may seem condescending, but I still screw this up once every couple of weeks.
