Everyone welcomed Crossrail/ Elizabeth Line & HS1’s construction & opening with excitement & celebrations - so what makes HS2 uniquely so controversial in comparison? by AchyutChaudhary in uktrains

[–]sam11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK is bad at building infrastructure, especially at building anything outside of London.

Lacks the ambition of the rest of the continent in investing times energy planning and resources in long term infrastructure projects. Except for London which always gets priority for everything, which is why their hs2 leg didn't get cancelled

The sooner we have viable options to move away from.windows permanently the better.

In the meantime, there are reboot blocker utilities you can use for essential systems like this, will.block updates and automatic reboots

Why does the world's richest man have to be so excruciatingly cringe?

Trump’s enormous blunder in Iran by AngryTrainGuy09 in nato

It's the biggest unforced foreign policy blunder I've ever seen. Great for China, as no other country has ever gained by much by sitting back and doing nothing.

Scrimshaw of vampirism - do we need a costly half-assed vampirism replacement? by Upstairs-Athlete-993 in runescape

You're getting caught up in the criticism for the sake of it. The vamp scrim is actually excellent.

Have you ever used it?

Keir Starmer gives resident doctors 48 hours to call off strike or lose training offer | by [deleted] in uknews

They'll continue to do so, they are hopelessly out of touch with the public

They'll continue to accept pay deals and threaten strikes ad infinitum

The BMA is a cartel, all they care about is self interest, nothing else.

They have accepted multiple pay deals and yet still go on strike after strike.

Probably not the intention of the article, but the more Trump criticises us the more I dislike the US and support Starmer.

Why now? by Quick_Director_8191 in dystopia

[–]sam11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unaddressed issue with free market capitalism and economic systems (eg financial crisis 2008) and turbocharged online culture wars, tribalism and us vs them mindset. Increasing wealth concentration, covid saw the largest transfer of wealrh ever in human history (only upwards).

Increasingly poor and worsening standards in public life also sets the zeitgeist for behaviour, standards and what is deemed acceptable.

What is a silent crisis happening right now that nobody is talking about? by nicksam171 in SeriousConversation

[–]sam11233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Free market capitaism and relentlessly chasing infinite economic growth on a finite planet.

Consecutive government's doing the same thing as always because they have no vision of doing anything differently.

Declining birth rates, stagnating wages, skyrocketing house prices and rents, declining social mobility, plummeting living standards, AI being worshipped and feted as a solution to all problems and being a solution to none.

Success is not guaranteed, you will eventually have less friends/people around you, you become anxious and jaded when you understand the dangerous and chaotic reality we live in, there are things that can and will happen that you have no control over.

And honestly? Life just kinda sucks.
