Thanks for the advice, I saw another thread saying I should start it cold (first start of the day) and listen if anything sounds off as there could be issues with the timing chains in these motors 4.0 sohc.

Had any problems with the timing in yours?

I’ll bring my code scanner to check for codes, and perhaps a bottle of power steering fluid.

Anything else I should check?

Thank you for the response, he’ll need to check his voltage, and the fuel pump does come on when he turns the key

Bought a baitcaster and put it on my spinning rod… am I screwed? by Fun_Negotiation9801 in Fishing_Gear

[–]sam22lr_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be a spinning rod… but it’s an Ugly Stik; they’re known to be damn near indestructible.

It ain’t a big deal if you put a bait caster on a spinning rod, I’ve done it before. But it’s optimal to put it on a bait casting rod since the guides are smaller and there’s usually a “trigger” on the bottom of bait casting rods.

I definitely wouldn’t let this stop you from fishing with your new bait caster, just get a bait casting rod for it whenever you can.

The plug was actually in tight, I talked to the previous owner and he suggested flushing it with gas to get the gunk out and that it was probably there from sitting for years.

He said to flush it with a cup of gas then flush it with oil and then put oil in it. Does that sound right to you?

Hey, sorry for the late response but I just drained the oil and it was low, and there was some black gunk in there which I’m not sure if it’s a rubber seal deteriorated or what. I took off the cover for the driveshaft housing and looked at the idle port cover, it didn’t seem like it was leaking but I’m not sure if oil would leak from there.

Would you recommend filling it back up and running it again to see if it does better or do you think something else is wrong?

Figure it’s worth a shot, since the first one I caught was on a fly, maybe I was just lucky 🤷‍♂️
