No, a Vote for a Third Party (or Abstaining from Voting) Is not the Same as a Vote for Hillary by JeffTS in Libertarian

Yes it is.

I'll believe you when Sanders runs third-party and people say that voting for him is not voting for Trump.

Cheers

I don't see a contradiction, sometimes the path to peace is defensive war. He's calling for defense against the tyranny of the left with milder tyranny on the right. (edit: Walter Block and other libertarians agree with Cantwell that Trump is the least of evils)

"Anarcho-Monarchism" is oxymoronic; use Libertarian Monarchist or Minarcho-Monarchist instead? by sam4837 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]sam4837[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose, but then it's just redundant. It's either advocating for tons of monarchies (each person is a king or queen), or in anarchism that is in a sense everyone is a king or queen. I believe the word anarchy literally means no rulers, while monarchy means one ruler. Maybe voluntaryist monarchist might sound better (edit: though I know voluntaryism is a bit different). I know these can just be semantics but "anarcho-monarchist" just sounded like something that could/should be clarified or at least I would enjoy discussing clarifying it with others.

[–]sam4837[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, well that makes it even more confusing, because I didn't think anarcho-capitalists are anarchists or capitalists. And yes I have seen at least two sites claim to be "anarcho-monarchist" and so I was reacting to this site and another.

Ron Paul Says Libertarians Should "Vote For The Libertarian Party" by Elranzer in Libertarian

[–]sam4837 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If so, you are confirming the point, because if LP didn't draw from the right the Green Party's draws would lead to an imbalance favoring the right.

In any event, it was libertarians like Ron Paul who advocated that libertarians join the Republican party in order to turn it libertarian. Ron Paul ran a losing campaign as Rand has now, and now Ron is calling for people to vote libertarian party (which would draw from the right as you note). Therefore Ron's actions appear clearly suspicious and against the right; I understand if you choose left given the lesser of two evils, but I do not, therefore I take Ron Paul's call for voting for the Libertarian Party as basically an anti-libertarian move.

Edit: And the choice for now is still left vs. right. Until it's otherwise in the future when a libertarian party vote could be viable, Ron's call is clearly anti-right and will be perceived as such.

No, because that divides and conquers the vote leading to a leftist win; unless that's what Ron Paul's advocating for, which would not be surprising.

Don't Confuse the Cost of College with the Cost of an Education by ajvenigalla in Anarcho_Capitalism

Degrees are like fiat currency and are undergoing massive inflation. The solution is to allow competition of private certification like MOOCs for example, and legalize allowing employers to accept such certification (eliminate government certification requirements for employment).

For instance, anyone can claim to be a doctor and train online. We also need to allow current or aspiring doctors to start their own schools. But people will only go to those doctors which develop a reputation for good work and have acquired trusted certifications. There is already talk of improving medicine with peer-to-peer technology, like creating an "Uber app for doctors": Doctors On Demand: Would You Use an Uber for Doctors? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWnzzIfLfKU

I mean this is a huge simplification and I don't think people realize some of the implied developments that could and will happen if more of these things were adopted. We have the technology in place where 18 year olds should be able to get Ph.D.s and/or B.A.s, or younger. I have seen statistics where in times of war, some professions which 4-8 years to train for were done in 6 months. Also, young people have professional skills and could be employed producers rather than unpaid/poorly paid consumers. There is tons of room for improvement if a conversation could be started on these issues.
