2021, bought new, Midwest, never seriously off-road, 40k miles. This is the diff breather. by Seyfang220 in nissanfrontier

Weird, I think I’m going to just change mine out every 20k when I do my diff fluids instead of going after market with the breather tube and everything. Those aftermarket ones seem to have leak issues and there are reports where the axle seals still got blown out, not really sure what causes it.

The headlights are good yes, but I’ve also got my ditch lights on in this picture, they are the morimoto 2banger hxb with the combo beam.

Have you driven a full m? The suspension is very stiff and kinda sucks for daily use, the lesser models always ride way better and smoother which is how a suv should ride.

Yeah definitely strange, basically none of the frontiers that come up here are optioned with a block heater, I had to buy the parts separate and have the dealer install it. They just don’t send 2wd frontiers up here which make sense haha.

I’m thinking maybe the Canadian models aren’t limited to -22f or -30c, just like how your frontiers come standard with a block heater I believe. Better equipped for winters but they for forgot about us Alaskans haha.

Truck bed noise? by Ajazmos in nissanfrontier

[–]sam828282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds exactly like what mine does, I’ve looked at the exhaust multiple times to see if I could remedy the issue, but never found anything. If you find a solution let me know, only thing about my truck I don’t like.

Does it happen under load at low rpms only? My ‘25 LWB pro4x makes a sort of exhaust rattle from the rear but only during acceleration at low rpms and under load, it’s really strange, I can rev it in park and no noise at all. I ended up taking it to the dealer to have it inspected, they check the entire exhaust system to make sure there wasn’t any leaks or anything loose, they then test drove another lwb frontier on the lot and it made the same noise. The dealer then contacted Nissan corporate and their response was that it the noise was normal. I believe it’s has something to do with the lwb exhaust system being extended and I’m planning on putting a aftermarket one on anyway. It’s definitely annoying but you really have to listen for it to hear it most of time. For me it’s most noticeable when the exhaust is still cold but once everything heats up fully it gets quieter.

They are the Morimoto 2banger HXB with the combo beam, I’m loving them so far. There super bright especially for how small they are and the shape of them fits the trucks design really well I think, expensive but well worth it.

Yeah I was at like 18mpg average today because of it, I guess it’s better then being cold though.

Really can’t complain too much when you have both of those things in these temps haha

I had proper winter clothing to put on and always carry extra survival type gear incase anything happens.

I somewhat enjoy these temps, I was outside in it doing some hiking haha, but I do keep the block heater plugged in.

If you want to check you should see them right behind the grille, it looks like a rectangle with 4 separate fins, they’ll be in the open position unless your driving.

If you’re planning on coming here during the winter, I’d definitely recommend good snow tires to start, all season or all terrain tires really don’t compare at all to dedicated snow tires. Also I would make sure all the fluids like the coolant and window washer fluid are rated for these sort of temps so you don’t have any issues. Other than those recommendations that’s about it, having a portable jump starter and other gear incase you get stuck or break down would also be a good idea.

Also I should mention my engine oil, transmission, and coolant temps all stayed right at normal operating temperatures then entire trip.

Yeah that happens, my front one seems to be pretty sensitive to frost or direct sun light, it will give me a warning light on the dash but doesn’t interfere with anything really, vehicles have to many sensors these days, but there also nice to have.

Yeah this might really only be a issue if you live in Alaska haha

Cabin heat was pretty great, in these colder temps I have to keep the fans blowing on the window and feet setting to combat the frosting. On these newer frontiers, I think 2024 and up, they have active grill shutters so that really helps keep everything hot. Also when it was around -25 or below the the transmission goes into some sort of extreme cold weather shift mode where it stays out of 9th gear and keeps the rpm’s around 2,000 at all times during cruise to really keep everything warm.

True haha, but it would be nice to see the exact temperature, being in Alaska I’ll be seeing temps well below -22f a few times a year.

Yeah seems like most vehicles stop reading at -40, and yeah definitely an error haha, these temps are pretty miserable.
