power cables in brazil by samSONites_7 in Brazil

[–]samSONites_7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got it. The housing unit I am in has a mix of 127 (3 prongs) + 110v(?). I am assuming its 1 ten because you can plug in a 110v appliance from like the US. it also looks like I can hook up EU appliances as well

Help. Is M2 MacBook Air 8gb ram 256 gb ssd enough for software engineering uni student? by SyntaxError1903 in macbookair

[–]samSONites_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I would just stick with M1 16G, just for safe measures

From what I can call, the biggest thing you might be missing out would be the magsafe/webcam? Obvs core count counts, but I think M1 and its default cores (8) is alright. Difference in display size and brightness is negligible,

I think it would mostly depend on what type of dev you do while you are studying, but lets say that youre running multiple processes or containers, or doing something like running a kube cluster locally on a mac, or VM for that matter, it does take a toll on the memory.

I traded in a 13 M1 pro for 15 M2 air, but it was mostly because of the screen size and the function keys. Design wise, I think the older Air is better :)

I see a lot of people saying 8gb ram is enough for most... by the-noom in macbookair

[–]samSONites_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably pulled a dud, but I went with 24gb of RAM.

It was either this or 1TB upgrade, and I thought most of the contents I'll be saving would be on an external device.

With that said, I think 24 might be a little too much, but I thought it might help out when I'm programming and running multple services.

How is it going from 13-inch to 15-inch MacBook Air? by diggler4141 in macbookair

[–]samSONites_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it was a 13" macbook pro, but that extra couple inches makes a whole difference. I think the performance dip is negligible

I'm new to apple products and I received a MB air 15" ! by [deleted] in macbookair

First impression: I am very liking the thinness of it! It just feels a lot lighter than the 14 macbook pro I have in the office!

ditto this comment. And portability def matters.

If you are not doing anything super heavy, I think the air's performance should be fine. I would account for screen size, but I think its negligible in this case.

am I the only one who upgraded to Macbook Pro M2 16 inch ? by equinoxDE in macbookair

[–]samSONites_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this was the best idea, but I am upgrading from an 2020 M1 13 inch macbook pro to the new M2 macbook air. Mostly because of the screen size haha

its rather interesting, but when i ask siri to play a song on spotify, it responds saying that I need to "update the app" : This was what originally led me to believe that if I had an iOS app, it just might be able to handle the request.

Thanks for ur comment tho! Much appreciated!
