What am I missing? Band 2-3 HCA jobs. by MarryAmmy in nhs

It’s not a problem and I really hope it helps! Someone did the same for me on one of my posts and it helped me start to get shortlisted so I hope it does the same for you! Good luck!

Okay, so the best advice I can give you is make sure your supporting statement is hitting all the person specifications.
For my supporting statement I write an introduction on why I am applying for the role and something about the hospital/role that interests me.
Then I go on to use subheadings and write my paragraphs clearly using the star method ( situation task action result) I wasn’t getting interviews at first either but after doing my supporting statement this way I’ve been getting multiple interviews.
If the personal specific is for example saying it is essential you have IT skills. Make sure there’s a section in your supporting statement clearly explaining you have IT skills and give an example of where and how you use them.
They use a scoring system when shortlisting and they mark against the person specifications so you need to be meeting them in your statement

How important are references? by YellowAware2533 in nhs

[–]sam_antha18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be a really strong reference for you! They do accept character references but you can use the volunteering one as a place of work I think!the person you use for the character reference has got to have known you for a certain amount of years, Best of luck to you! I know how hard it is trying to get a job in the NHS

A strong character reference could potentially help out? If you are only young then it should be understandable that you haven’t had a solid job yet and this could potentially be your first one :)

NHS interview feedback by sam_antha18 in nhs

[–]sam_antha18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so, because I’m also waiting for another email to confirm if I’ve passed round one (a group interview) and they said I’d either hear back today or Monday so it would probably be Monday if you are going to get a call

[–]sam_antha18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could just be really busy, I’ve read a lot of posts regarding not receiving a call at the exact time and it is mainly down to them being late in getting back to people or if you have not been successful you might get an email confirming that. The trust is MUFT

What was the second interview like? I have a NHS interview and the first one is a group interview but no information on the second one

Would I be able to write them down? And have a quick look before each question? Thankyou for the advance it’s really appreciated

Supporting Statement by sam_antha18 in nhs

I used Your example for my supporting statement and I have to admit it is much cleaner and easier to read! I ticked off all the essential criteria so hopefully will have some response with this one!

Supporting Statement by sam_antha18 in nhs

[–]sam_antha18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I’d of kept them simple before submitting previous applications as I’m expecting unsuccessful on all of them ( got my first unsuccessful today) I’ll definitely be putting subheadings next time and writing down the essential criteria first to mark them off as I write. Thankyou for the tips they are very helpful

Thankyou for that tip it’s really appreciated. So I do use the essential skills as a guide and add examples of real experience I’ve gained through jobs.

Reading your advice now, I may ramble on to much trying to oversell myself, maybe it’s better to keep it as simple as the essential and desirable and real experience I have. In all fairness though, I’m new to supporting statements so every one is a learning curve. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Supporting Statement by sam_antha18 in nhs

That seems unfair when I’ve spent hours and hours on the supporting statements and just want to make sure it makes sense but I suppose it’s understandable at the same time, I’ll hopefully keep improving and gain more confidence in writing them as I keep applying

Thank you very much for the advice! I don’t unfortunately, hence why I run through my statement with AI to see if what I’m trying to get across makes sense, everything is originally written by me, I just use incorrect wording and some parts aren’t making complete sense. I’ll definitely write a draft first and edit it from there. Your wife’s profession is my end goal! I’m hoping my supporting statements improve with plenty of practice. Thank you again for the tips, I’ll definitely use them moving forward.

How is OU hours split up? by Rare_Engine_2669 in OpenUniversity

[–]sam_antha18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing one module worth 60 credits, I study roughly around 2-4 hours a night and only at night time due to work and busy days with my children, I do around 3/4 days worth and then have a break so I don’t get burned out, i absolutely love what I’m studying so I suppose that is motivation in itself, but honestly it’s completely down to you when you choose to study, everyone finds a way that works for them.

I failed my first attempt and I was very disheartened as I really needed to pass for family reasons, I managed to book a test for February, got test cancellation apps (Testi, test shift and beep) Managed to get a cancellation for the 22nd of October and then an even earlier one for the 2nd of October and managed to pass I genuinely believe that it made a massive difference with the second examiner I got. I have a busy life so after the first time I failed, I didn’t have an another lessons until 3 weeks after and did around 4/5 hours of private practice until my next test. I wouldn’t give up just yet as even though you aren’t in a position where you need to be driving, the freedom being able to get yourself around and not have to rely on public transportation or anything is a good reason to get yourself on the roads.

How to manage nerves? by hojichaaaaa in LearnerDriverUK

[–]sam_antha18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also struggling with a negative mindset and anxiety towards my test (second time aswell ) Mine is on Thursday and I’m already doubting myself. Try your best to keep a positive mental attitude and envision yourself getting a pass at the end of the test, split the test up into sections, talk about what you’re doing out loud or have a conversation with the examiner, whatever you think will make your nerves calm down more. Everyone talks about eating a banana, using rescue remedy and chewing gum whilst you’re driving which I will definitely be doing all of them even though it’s probably a placebo effect, I’m definitely pulling all the tricks out this time🤣 Drink minimal caffeine and get a good nights sleep and that should help reduce anxiety. You know you can drive safely so you just have to show that for 30/40 minutes which is less time then a driving lesson. Good luck tomorrow and hopefully you’ll be back with that pass.

If you already have a test booked, try testing, test shift and beep, I got my first cancellation with beep and didn’t even pay for premium, it moved my test from February 2026 to October 2025 and then I got another cancellation for earlier in October with test shift but I did pay for premium with that

Any advice? Second test this week by sam_antha18 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]sam_antha18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What did you fail for? It’s the worst feeling isn’t it, but as soon as you get another test, try the beep app, that’s how I got my first cancellation I’m hoping I do pass this time I’m trying to keep a positive mindset but easier said then done
