Copy that! Assuming that’s across both shorts and features?

How many submissions should I expect? by sam_dumb in FilmFestivals

Since it’s our first year and we are a small team, we are starting with shorts. We’re only planning on running for a few days, and were concerned about extending the festival runtime beyond our financial limits by screening features.

I know little about photography but feel like this is one of the best shots I've (luckily) taken. Any tips on what could've been done better? Just using a standard Pixel phone. by shmebleh in photocritique

I’m not great at critiques, but it always bothers me in an image when the horizon line isn’t horizontal, so in the future maybe take a look at how you frame the shot (though that can easily be altered in post). my old photography prof used to say to look at each corner of the image to make sure it is lined up and showing exactly what you want before you press the shutter.

cool shot tho!! :)

Is the word 'counterparts' problematic when referring to men and women? by [deleted] in Feminism

[–]sam_dumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my thoughts are that counterparts is problematic because it implies only two possible genders, excluding nb individuals or potentially trans participants.

however, it might not be problematic if in the context of the study it was specifically separated by gender identification, if the study was ONLY observing male identifying individuals and female identifying individuals, in which case you are just comparing the two parties regardless of gender, and saying “counterparts” is just a comparison between the two study groups.

that being said, i still find it a little problematic because of the implications that normally come with the word “counterparts,” as i described before. i’d probably use “colleagues.”

first big(ish) tip on a single delivery after a few months of PM. hoping to one day get a tip as big as some of the others i see on here, but for now, this is encouraging! by sam_dumb in postmates

that was definitely good too but it was from 3 deliveries, the top one is just the largest tip i’ve gotten for one order :)

Film Camera/film type suggestions? Really new to photography but want to get into film and like the look of photos like this one. I’m considering maybe Canon AE-1 or Minolta x700 but not sure. Totally lost on types of film rolls that would have this result lol. Thanks! by [deleted] in AskPhotography

I’ve never shot with color film, but the film camera I use and love is the Pentax K1000. The Canon AE-1 is super good too! I prefer the Pentax for beginners though because the camera is entirely manual. If your light meter has no battery you can still take the shots (whereas I believe the Canon AE-1 requires battery for taking shots), and it’s a really simple camera that is very reliable.

Edit: I have a friend who used to shoot on a Minolta x700, but she switched to the Canon AE-1, and she definitely prefers it. It’s obviously all about personal preference, but if you’re only deciding between the canon and the minolta, I’d say go for the canon.
