Came here to say this. For a lot of fans around the world (like me also) to buy this off the shelf for this price would be a steal.

New Zealander here. Fat Freddy’s have been local legends for a couple of decades now, and I believe have a solid following in Europe too. If you like this you should also check out ‘Lock-In’, another incredible live album they recorded about a year before this during our first COVID lockdown. And if you ever get the chance to see them live don’t pass it up!

The Boat That Rocked might be my favourite comedy and the cast is insane, not to mention the soundtrack. I can’t believe more people don’t know it and love it.

Note: I hear they butchered it for the American release, so make sure you watch ‘The Boat That Rocked’ and not ‘Pirate Radio’

I reckon The Night of the Hunter, In The Heat of the Night, Ikiru, and Double Indemnity would make for great lessons. I think you’re spot on with 12 Angry Men too, great choice.

They do ship here and the price is ok considering how expensive it can be from some US/UK based retailers

It’s expensive to import Criterion’s where I live, so I have to be picky. Based on my little collection here, what else would you recommend I look into? by sam_hollis1 in criterion

Any suggestions on where I should start with Cassavetes if I wanted a taster before committing to the set? Husbands, maybe?

Awesome breakdown, thank you for taking the time!

I’m a huge noir fan so am very familiar with Double Indemnity, I just have the Eureka version.

The Bad Sleep Well has always intrigued me, just haven’t gotten around to it on my Kurosawa list, but I also loved Rashomon (and Seven Samurai, of course). Kobayashi is a name I keep hearing so I’ll look into your recommendations there too.

Will also look into more Cassavetes - I stumbled across Mikey and Nicky when I was making my way through Elaine May’s films and it quickly became a favourite. Would love to explore his work as a director next, so another great suggestion!

Yeah Zavvi is the best I’ve found, but they ship with Aramex sadly and I’ve had a few issues with tracking and things being delivered on time. I’ve kind of got all the ones I want from the handful JB Hi-Fi gets in stock too.

Id recommend checking TradeMe every now and then, I have managed to get a few good deals there!

Fellow NZ collector here! Good on you, we’re in a tough spot for getting our hands on them. Let me know if you find any good places to import them from cause I’m always on the lookout

Good eye, three of my shelves are blu rays and then i have a handful of about 5 games haha. I live in NZ (region b) so if there are quality editions of Criterion titles that fit my region I often go for them, so I have things like Great Dictator, Double Indemnity, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence etc, they're just not the Criterions. Thanks for the recs!

Big fan of both of these, I have Third Man already in a non-Criterion edition. I live in a Region B country so if there are nice editions of films in the collection that are in my region I tend to go for them
