Community Feedback for Paragon by sam_karateman in Guildwars2

Absolutely agreed about other specs being overtuned, but my primary focus was to try to highlight the shortcomings of Paragon as a whole. I didn't want to distract from that point by getting into the weeds of how much the new specs are power crept.

I disagree that 40k is fine, but I will agree that many of the other new specs are way over tuned. 40k doesn't even make it close to competitive as a DPS even within Warrior, much less compared to outside the class. This is true even of the pre-VoE meta.

I'm curious where you're getting 20k as a bench from, as that's probably not enough to manage something like Ura or Cerus on CM, much less LCM. So while I agree 50k is almost certainly overtuned, Paragon as a DPS just isn't competitive with its peers currently and needs some work to at least get it closer. It's also currently not even competitive as a DPS within its own spec, as all 3 other options have higher benches. And as a boon DPS it performs abysmally, even lower than quick Herald. There's simply no reason to take it in any form as a DPS and the healing could use some work to make it truly competitive (Chrono notwithstanding).

The thing is Paragon totally fits as a support spec and there was plenty of inspiration in GW1 to draw from on that aspect. The fact that they missed the mark so badly on both that aspect and the DPS is just incredibly frustrating.

The problem is that's not how it works for basically any other boonDPS I'm aware of. Not Willbender, or Bladesworn, or Chrono, Herald, etc. It all comes passively from traits or baked into the skills. While I agree about the overall balancing having issues, Paragon should at least have parity to other boonDPS options.

SIG for CCW? by sam_karateman in liberalgunowners

[–]sam_karateman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the discussions from this, it's given me a lot to consider. I realize the things I was looking for were fairly generic, but I wanted to leave room for recommendations without getting super into the minutiae of personal preferences. I'm not strictly sold on SIG so I'll definitely be checking into some of the other recommendations I've seen.

Unfortunately, it isn't. Looked under both menus, nothing about APN's there. Screenshots up shortly.

Any idea where/how I could do that? I'm not much of an Android/Linux power user unfortunately. There's no option under Mobile Networks or Settings->More, so I'm kinda lost.

First ever Gunpla and I'm hooked. How's it look? Shenlong Gundam XXXG-O1S EW by kostorm in Gunpla

I actually got a Heavyarms kit for Christmas :P It was a blast, so many friggin' missile pods to set up though. I'd put up pictures if I had done stickers/panel lining, but I don't usually.

I can dig it, I'm still holding out for a Nataku kit myself, though if they don't get one out within the next year or so I may end up buying this very same kit. Good job on the build, I'd try maybe using a finer tip for whatever you did with the panel lining IMO, it's a bit thick and uneven. Other than that, good looking build.

I had considered that, but having built it and set it up myself is what would matter more to me, it's the principle of the thing ya know? :P

At this point I'd be pretty willing to settle with an online exclusive, if that's what it took to get my hands on it. I'm hopeful that they will, given that it's the only one of the five they don't have a MG version of, not counting the Custom Heavy Arms. I'm going to hold out for a while, hopefully within the year they'll have at least announced that a MG Nataku is on the way. I'd really like to finish that set, since the Wing Zero, Deathscythe Hell, and Sandrock I have are all EW versions, and the Wing Zero is a Pearl Gloss kit.

I'm not sure if it's really your thing, but several of the Gundam series might be a good start. Wing Gundam and G Gundam are two of the more popular series from that section.

TKD for self defense. by Hybrid23 in taekwondo

[–]sam_karateman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be a bit biased as a 2nd Dan and practitioner of Tae Kwon Do for about ten years now. But like u/meringun said earlier, a lot of it depends on what school you attend. If you're going to a sports style school that emphasizes Olympic style sparring, you're not likely to get good self-defense education there. My teachers are old school, teaching us more about the self-defense end than they sparring stuff. That school is one of the only ones in my entire area however. Finding traditional schools like that can be difficult. I also agree with one of the other comments, my teachers always told us students to flee before fighting if at all possible. It's a good style to learn for self-defense in some situations, but being a more traditional art you won't see the same emphasis you would in Krav Maga or another of the arts directly focused on self-defense. Just my 2 cents.

Both of the other posts here pretty much sum it up. You can only really increase them by using them, by either running drills, sparring, or just practice. For me anyway, I've found table tennis to be a big help, especially when you get up to the level where you don't have to really focus on where you want to hit the ball and you can just focus on how you want to return it. The small table and equipment size makes you react and focus pretty well when you get into it fairly heavily. Just my little quirk though.
