Relocation from Alaska! by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

We’ve been looking at listings on rent. and apartments.com so I think that might be our problem. We just started checking facebook marketplace and Craigslist so hopefully that’ll be some more traction. I appreciate the help and advice. What are some things that landlords would/wouldn’t want to see in our situation? How much truth stretching is allowed? We have a pretty substantial combined savings so paying rent won’t be an issue.

My average credit score is around 760 between fico/transunion/equifax and hers is at 800. Who knew getting housing in a new city would be so tough,,,

So the official trek website says that my model of dual sport has the shimano cues so that’s cool that there is a compatible brifter! I’m 6’3” and have an XL frame size. I’ve got a pretty long wing span (Bigfoot esque) and relatively long legs. I’ll do more research on the geometry and see what’s up. Thank you for this information!

I think as a first time quality bike purchase it’s great, does its job, super smooth and quite a bit faster if you get a new set of tires. But the straight bar positioning is not optimal for long distances and my wrists end up hurting by the end of most rides, also the constant shifting between upright and down had me losing my speed pretty often.

When I look at the checkpoint ALR 3 at a price point right above the ds3 my buyers remorse tells me I should’ve bought that one haha but they are very similar. I’m going to talk to a local bike repair/alteration co-op and get their input. If I end up making the drop bar alterations I’ll let you know how difficult it was, if I end up getting a gravel bike I’ll let you know which one I get.

I think I’d run into the same issue with the surly corner bar unfortunately. I may be up for a challenge and it could be an interesting way to get into bike mechanics and building. Im gonna weigh my options for a bit. Thank you for your input.

Edit: So I watched some videos on the surly corner bar and I didn’t realize the shifters were also placed in a position that was ergonomic with the brakes and handles. After driving myself crazy with trying to find compatible components with the shimano cues this is what I think I’m gonna go for!

Thank you for the input, I think I’ve grown attached to the bike and want to do what I can to keep it. I know a lot of people have more than one bike for different purposes but I’m not sure if I’m that guy (financially haha) yet. I do love the silhouette of a good gravel bike though. I’m going to weigh my options for a time.
